Hi anyone into F1

Below is a link to RTÉ Sports News article about the new Ferrari F10 car for the coming F1 season;

http://www.rte.ie/sport/motorsport/2010/0128/ferrari.html?RTEMAILID (http://www.rte.ie/sport/motorsport/2010/0128/ferrari.html?RTEMAILID)

I've been following the F1 scene on and off since 1996 and I'm not sure how it will pan out this year. Some of the car changes are retrograde from a safety perspective, like fuel tanks double the size of last season to compensate for no mid-race refuelling and narrower tyres

The F10 has got an awfully long wheelbase from the photos I've seen. Any other F1 nuts out there want to fire their views in, on any of the new cars for 2010 but in particular the Ferrari F10?

Cammy :bye:

Is it Lotus that hasn't done any wind tunnel testing at all? crazy sweets.

This season is going to be amazing.

Hi Tinyclothes,

Yes I agree, this new season is going to be amazing or certainly not the usual straightforward season for sure.

Lotus hasn't done any wind tunnel testing??? :dizzy: Yeah! Bring back the crazy stuff like when I was a wee boy Brabham had the BT46B "fan car" and my favourite, the Tyrrell P34. Who remembers that crazy car? Imagine that rolling out onto the grid at Bahrain these days, a 6 wheeler! :not worth

Here it is in case nobody believes me
When I was a very small boy it was like the thing I was obsessed about for a while, i.e. how come it had 6 wheels and all the other cars on the circuit had only 4... :greengrin

Its either Lotus or Manor F1 who haven't done any wind tunnel testing, but thats because its all been designed and tested through Computational Fluid Dynamics (or CFD). CFD is a computer based package that lets you simulate the airflow over the car. Can be less expensive than traditional wind tunnel testing, but can also be less accurate as computational errors can crop up in unexpected places, flows and boundary conditions can be input wrongly and also it can require a far sounder knowledge of the actual fluid flow so that the results can be interpreted properly. It does make some very very pretty pictures though :greengrin

Can only wait and see how it pans out over the season.

:agree: Beautiful as per. Not that the aesthetics are a major concern, just as long as it performs significantly better than last year's monstrosity. That F60 must have been one of Ferrari's worst designs in since the mid 90's - IIRC the 1996 model in Schumacher's first season was particularly unreliable. Looks a strong enough car though, going by the specifications given.

The Mercedes also looks quite nifty from the photos here (http://www.mercedes-gp.com/gallery.asp) (images 12-16).

Should be interesting to see what McLaren and Red Bull have come up with. The McLaren MP4-25 launch is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Looks like there's another new rule in the pipeline as well re tyres: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81069. Decent enough proposal IMO.

the new rule seems fair, how the cars treat the tyres is going to be a huge factor this season, bring on the mclaren :greengrin

Now that (http://carlaunch.mclaren.com/) is a stunning car :agree:

Full technical spec here (http://www.mclaren.com/f1season/2010/presspack2010/tech-spec.php).

I think it look terrible mate. Hope it drives like a beauty though. Looks like the middle bit actually joins the rear spoiler, surely not.

Is that not just the Red Bull from last year, with Ferrari livery on it?

I'd disagree on both counts :greengrin While I do like the design, that's about the only thing I like about McLaren. I can't stand Hamilton, and have never taken to Button so to be fair, I hope it drives like a truck

It does :agree:
