Absolutely =- dream large. Aim for the double but if we get either of them, that'll be good enough for me.

Win the League this year, and use the Champions League money to build a team that cruises to a treble next season:greengrin:thumbsup:

The cup for me this year. We can always kick on and do the league next season:greengrin

playing well enough over 38 games against SPL teams to finish at the top, or getting through 5 games where you may not play ANY top league opposition?

Also, with the OF, I very much doubt Hibs will win the league in my lifetime. The cup is a possibility.
Ok, the cup is the holy grail and would be the greatest day out ever, but its the league for me. :notworthy:

3rd place do me fine thanks, and a run at the Scottish... :)

But in dream land, i'd take the League.

We "aint won the Big cup, since 1902" can live a few more years.

I'd rather win the one that actually is THEE BIG ONE.

The league is undoubtedly the harder to win and would really make people sit up and take notice of Hibs and the progress the club is making.

However winning the cup would probably be the final straw for most Hertz fans, they would then have nothing on us and would probably be forced to admit we are by far away the superior club in Edinburgh.

To conclude, i want both.

I will take the cup this year and the League next year :agree:

Cup for me, I now Hibees who watched us win the league back in '50s, they are mostly dead:boo hoo: now and most of them wanted to see Hibs win the cup. Call me selfish if you want but I don't want to be one of them. I want to tell in ma old age about the day (or days) I went through to the smelly city to see the Glorious Hibs lift the Scottish Cup. Oh and it would get it right up oor manky neighbour in the west of the City:greengrin

Historically the Cup was regarded as the bigger competition certainly up to the commencement of WWI. The league was only put there to provide some national framework for the professional clubs to structure their games around. Replays in the Glasgow Cup and the 3 Edinburgh based Cup competitions took precedence over league games.

Rangers failure to win it for the 25 years from 1903 to 1928 gave it special significance in the post WWI years. So in prestige terms in was at least as significant as the league up until WWII.

For both Edinburgh Clubs the Cup became something of a Holy Grail because of the gap they have had between winning it.

Certainly once the European Cup established itself in Nations awareness post Real Madrid vs Frankfurt at Hampden the League became the most prestigious with its attendant European Cup place. However with the CL place s on offer in the bigger countries finishing in the top 3 or 4 is the more targeted goal rather than winning the league.

Realistically the dominance of the Old Firm since 1986 (:boo hoo:) makes the Cup the only realistic trophy on offer for the other teams.

League for me, would be huge for a club to break the OF dominance by actually winning the league, and youd imagine if we had the squad capable of doing so, along with the benefits of winning the league, we'd be in a good position to win the cup in the years following it.

Cup's a lottery (one we always lose!! :grr: ) but winning the League shows real class and quality and makes you the best team in the country.

I can't really believe any Hibs fan would seriously rather win the Cup than the League. It still seems a distant dream, however, whereas the Cup is 'do-able'............................isn't it?!? :boo hoo:

No brainer for me.....has to be the League. Any of half a dozen clubs can win the cup with a lucky run. Only two clubs are ever likely to win the league.

League, obviously.

Never going to happen but, would take 2nd in the league
over the cup.:worms:

League for me meaning that at least one of the OF would have to settle for the diddy Europa League and less revenue than budgeted for. :agree:

Scottish Cup? I can wait another couple of years.

Scottish Cup first.

If we managed to win the league, then I'm sure half the players would be moving on to bigger clubs.
This would leave a depleted side to compete in the CL and cup competitions next season, with little chance of winning anything.

Given we have done far better in the league than we have in the cup over recent (last 100 :greengrin) years I reckon we are due to win the Scottish Cup by one or two years :greengrin

However, if we need to settle for the League, it wouldn't be a bad consolation.

That said, right now I'll take 3 points off the arabs and we'll worry aboot the 5th round efter.

If I had to pick one it'd be the league every time.

You have to be the best team to win the league, but anyone (apart from us, obviously :greengrin) can fluke a cup win.

That said, I'll be pished for a long, long, long time when we do eventually win the cup.

League every time. SC is a Mickey Mouse cup. If we had won it in the last 20 years it probably wouldn't even exist now, as our abysmal record is the interesting thing/talking point about it.
