Aside from the title of this thread serving as an example of juxtaposition to children everywhere, I found myself only able to shake my head in sad acceptance whilst reading this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8454242.stm) story on the BBC.

Why? Seriously, just why would you?!

Idiots like that deserve to follow the car under.

Ain't that the truth.

Before anyone has a go at me for being "anti-West Lothian", I'm originally from Bathgate, and have witnessed such stupidity first hand, on more occassions than I care to recall.

They were (probably) from Winchburgh, known by neighbouring villages as Banjotown. If you ever get the bus from the Bronx to Winchie through the shale bings you'll perhaps begin to understand...

The level of stupidity in West Lothian is fairly high I suppose (I grew up in Broxburn and Dechmont and went to school in Bathgate). Although there are a few Hibbies and Dumbos in Broxburn and Uphall, the Rangers-Celtic problem is actually almost worse in West Lothian than it is in Glasgow.

Bathgate is a place that you have have to live in to understand. It does have more than its fair share of loonies.

Livingston doesnę count, it's a Weedgie infiltration zone.

And by the end of the year the whole lot will be link by a twin track electrified railway to Airdrie, Coatbridge, Easterhouse, Barlanark and another 15 other stops all the way to Helensburgh.

John - bear in mind that West Lothian is that part of Scotland where guys who've been out on the bevvy and come home at three in the morning of the day after they went out try to persuade their long-suffering wives that they didn't come home the night before because they were abducted by aliens who assaulted them with probes shaped like big bars of Toblerone.

Aliens go to West Lothian because they blend in with the local population so well.

I have lived in west Lothian for about 10 years but have spent 30 years living in Edinburgh before moving west.

I take it you've heard of Pilton, Drylaw and Muirhouse, Niddrie and you slate West Lothian Intelligence :faf:

I work in the Education system in Livi and records show that they set high standards year in year out.

Two plums drive into a frozen lake and everyone in the west is stupid, I take it you don't get out much

Obviously, you've missed the point of my post. Scott, himself alluded to the fact that he was not having a go at West Lothian as he is from West Lothian himself (ergo the reference to "West Lothian bashing").

My post was more aimed at Scott in that he seems to have tarred all in West Lothian with the same brush despite him originally coming from Bathgate but now he is living in Dundee he feels that he can now fire off at people from West Lothian.

I am actually from Bathgate and also know Scott (Story so far) pretty well and was P*ssed off at his post but obviously, not realising I was from West Lothian, you have thought I was agreeing with him (which I certainly am not) hence the comment I made about him "being all clever an' that but still chose to leave Bathgate to live in Dundee. Note use of smilies:wink:

Edit:

In fact, ignore all of the above and re-read my whole post, especially the part that says "and he calls us stupid".

2nd Edit:

I'm slightly concerned that you say that you work in the education system in Livingston, yet there seems to be a distinct lack of punctuation/capitals. I'm assuming you don't work in the English department? There "is" thickos everywhere???

It's nice to know you know my motives/feelings better than I do and can presume EXACTLY what I was doing. Had it been some moron driving along the Tay, I would have labelled it as "Dundonian Intelligence" - had it been someone driving along the Water of Leith, or the Clyde, or the Don, or the Dee...

It was a tongue in cheek title, relative to the location. Christ, the amount of general slander which is launched at Glasgow from all and sundry on here is ludicrous, yet no-one bats an eyelid about "tarring with the same brush". Where was the outcry when Doddie posted a thread around Christmas, depicting how it would be celebrated in North Lanarkshire? Anything East of Harthill seems to be immune from the odd humerous pops/slander, but it is true - EVERYWHERE in Scotland has its share of idiots - God forbid someone should follow the trend on here and generalise against a town in the Central-East of Scotland - it doesn't mean I think everyone in West Lothian are intellectually devoid - I know more people from West Lothian who are University graduates than anywhere else in Scotland - that is biased in that I know a lot of people from West Lothian mind you, but still.

I also love that you appear to suggest that I'm tearing into West Lothian "because I'm educated" - nothing could be further from the truth - surely it doesn't take a good education to realise their reckless disregard for human life in their actions? They certainly weren't educated enough to consider that their car may fall beneath the ice - they weren't educated enough to realise that someone (unfortunately) would have been called out, to put their own lives on the line, to try and save these morons.

It's funny actually - I had considered using a title which tore into young drivers (again, being one myself) as that generalisation (which is followed by insurance companies in a highly descriminatory fashion) is held by a significant portion of people, as many accidents you read about in the press is relative to "boy racer syndrome", but opted against it in light of the recent "Road Safety x-x Young Driver" threads which were present last year.

Except, they didn't drive into a frozen lake, they tried to drive along a frozen [canal]. As per my above post, evidently "tar-brushing" is illegal, unless in relation to Glasgow/Ayrshire/Lanarkshire - my tongue-in-cheek (which is still evident as I read it just now, though nobody else really knows my writing style/tone, which is near impossible to convey through text on an online forum) assault on the East has caused a few over-sensitive (if I may steal your phrase Hiberni-Mum) reactions.
