An extract from the Scotsman that makes interesting reading. Note the venue and how appropriate it was that Hearts held their function there :greengrin

HEART OF MID-LOTHIAN CLUB CONCERT The annual soiree and concert of the Heart of Mid-Lothian football club, Edinburgh took place last night in the Oddfellows Hall. There was a large audience. Mr. George Sneddon, President ESFA (East of Scotland Football Association) occupied the chair and opened the proceedings by speaking of matters of interest in football circles in the East of Scotland during the last twelve months. Alluding to the Hibernian club he said that from various circumstances which they all deplored and which they were familiar with, the Hibernians this season had been considerably weakened and that from a quarter least expected. Better things might have been looked for from a club such as that from which the Hibernians had received the blow. But if there was a ray of consolation to the Hibernians it was the universal sympathy which had been expressed for them in the loss they had sustained. (Applause) He was sure they all hoped the Hibernians would succeed in regaining the club's loss of prestige and in placing it, as it was in former years, among the front ranks of Scottish football club's. (Applause)

Out of interest it's worth mentioning that just a few days earlier Hibs had faced Celtic at Parkhead in a match designed to raise funds to help Hibernians with their plight. Irony of the highest order I'd say. They steal away the cream of our players and then offer to help create some funds to allow Hibs to keep running as a club. You couldn't make it up. Incidentally Celtic won 5-4 but did not have three of the former Hibs men in their line up with no reasons given as to why they were absent. Maybe those players had consciences after all?

Great stuff John. I'm sure Jack R will be on in a minute saying 3 of our goals were offside but the ref had an anti-Celtc agenda. :greengrin

Interesting to see the sympathy expressed to Hibernians. Completely different from events just over 100 years later.
