Watched that a while ago when it was on 4, couldn't believe how short the sentence was, guy totally ruined the girls life considering he was also done for raping her. **** of the earth, real shame because she seemed like a nice girl as well.

Life sentence does NOT = Life imprisonment.

I would suggest that the minimum prison term here is 12 years, at which point the person will be considered for parole and may or may not be released from prison to remain on conditions for the rest of their life.

Breach of the conditions (which can be something like not drinking), and then they are carted off back to prison and the process starts again.

Life does, in fact, mean life.

Gordan Modiak got a further 5 years behind bars for causing a riot, this muppet shoud never be released because what he done to Louise Duddy.

He organized the attack and the other clown carried it out.

I don't know if you've come across him since his release. Having seen him shambling around Leith after he got out, I would honestly doubt if he is a danger to anybody.

I agree about the 20 year sentence for this sort of crime though.

To be honest I didn't know he was out but my wife knew Louise Duddy but lost contact years ago I think she now lives in England.

Strongly agree, outright evil - wicked beyond belief. Life imprisonment or death for these individuals. Sorry, this may seem harsh but it truly merits it.

With the amount of offences that people on here think merits a life sentence we'd have to build about 50 new prisons around the country!

That is a very fair point, I think part of the problem is we send to many people to prison for offences that really don't merit it, when there are real and meaningful alternatives. I don't believe in the criminal justice system prison just as a form of punishment.

We do need a root and branch review of the criminal justice system with a focus on violent crime against the person. I have changed my opinion over the last few years in relation to the death penalty, I was always against it for but the wickedness of certain crimes merits execution.
