Nearing the end of the decade so thought it would be interesting to see who you would have in your Hibs team of the decade.

I'd go for:

Andersson

Whittaker
Sauzee
Bamba
Murphy

Latapy
O’Neil
Brown
Zemmama

Riordan
Paatalainen

Also a few more in the current team who would definitely be in with a shout had they been here longer

Remember there's still another year until the decade ends.

Does that mean that the 80's ended in 1990 then?

The decade ran from 01.01.2000-31.12.2009.

With that in mind I would go for;

Murphy
Bamba
Sauzee
Whittaker

Murray
Brown
Latapy

As there was no year 0, the first decade of AD was 1-10. The last decade of the first century was 91-100. The last decade of the second millenium was 1991-2000. The current decade is 2001-2010, so there's still a year to go. Your team might get better in the coming year so don't rush in too soon.

i think you may be mistaken as there was a "year Zero" it just wasnt called "year zero"

up until year 1 they would have just numbered them day 37 for example and that first decade started on (using a modern calendar) 1.1.0000 at 12.00.00.00 am and then ended on 31.12.0009 at 23.59.99.99 pm, and the next decade starting on 1.1.0010 at 12.00.00.00 am and so on so forth...

therefore...

a NEW millenium started on 1.1.2000 at 12.00.00.00 am as did the decade, therefore the previous decade/millenia ended on 31.12.1999 at 23.59.99.99 pm.

This site explains it better than I can
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anno_Domini

The year 2010 is the 2010th year AD, so is the last year of the decade beginning on 1/1/2001. It's a bit like months - the first ten months end at the end of October not the beginning.

I know I'm a pedant.

I think the stalwarts of the 3rd place teams of 2001 and 2005 have to be given a bit of precedence. I also think the formation should be a 3-5-2 to accomodate Sauzee:

-------------------------Colgan

----------Gary Smith-----Sauzee------Laursen

Lovell------O'Neil-----Latapy-----Glass------Murphy

--------------O'Connor--------Riordan

Subs

Stack
Ian Murray
Liam Miller
De La Cruz
Killen
Zitelli
Stokes

The inclusion of Lovell and Glass will raise eyebrows. Ever-presents in our two third place teams of the decade - enough said. Lovell gets in ahead of Whittaker because he's a more disciplined and mature player who could hold his position properly. Glass just makes it ahead of Liam Miller (two very similar players IMO) because of Miller's lack of appearances. Glass was a real key player for us in Mowbray's first year in charge when we finished third. Beuzelin, Brown and Thomson spent most of the season injured and he held the midfield together.

More time also needed for Stokes, you can't argue with Riordan and O'Connor's overall scoring records in the first half of the decade. Killen gets on the bench for his physique and scoring record in the half season we got out of him.

Colgan gets in for being the best of a largely disappointing bunch. Again, Stack could have dislodged him with more appearances. Bamba and Beuzelin were originally on the bench, then I realised I'd forgotten Stokes and De La Cruz. De La Cruz ahead of Sproule for physique and final ball, maybe ahead of Lovell too if he'd been a bit more consistent.

As the only fully fledged member of both 3rd place teams, Gary Smith deserves his place. Ian Murray played a bit in 2000-01 and a lot in 2004-05 but I really feel he was very overrated in his first spell. I can't praise him highly enough since his return to the club, however.

Brown and Thomson? For what exactly? My selections were on merit not west-cost tabloid hype. It's maybe a little harsh on Brown but, of all the midfielders in there, I feel he comes up short in terms of nous, flair, discipline and maturity. For one reason or another, Brown and Thomson can't assert themselves playing for the biggest clubs in a poor league. So how good are they? Likewise Whittaker. As much as he's pilloried, Michael Stewart at least has the drive and will to be a key player and regular matchwinner for Hearts. Its that misguided desire to succeed that probably brings out the worst in him too, but at least he's battling away on the pitch rather than spending all his time sounding off from the bench or treatment room.

So, by your reckoning.... if you start work on a Monday, that isn't day 1 of your week? It's not week 1 of your job?

Taking your examplr, day 37 is day 37.... but it's in the FIRST year, ie year 1.

What no place for O'Brien?

If i was to play O'Brien id have to adapt the formation meaning the team would be a little vulnerable in defence, i feel the midfield is pretty solid at that, he can be my super sub:rolleyes:
