Hibernian FC today announced that it had agreed a two year contract extension with midfielder David Wotherspoon, which means that the player is now contracted at Easter Road until June 2013.

Manager John Hughes said: "This is brilliant news for the Club and I am personally delighted for David. Although he has just broken into the first team this season, he has been one of our most consistent performers. This contract extension is just reward for the progress he has made and his attitude to hard work - he really is a model professional who has all the attributes to go far in the game. This Club provides a fantastic environment to develop young professionals, and it's great to see players like David coming through to ensure that we continue to build a squad to compete at the highest level."

David Wotherspoon said: "I am delighted to commit myself for the next 3½ years to Hibernian. The Club has given me a great opportunity and I love it here. The Gaffer has a real vision of where he wants to go and I aim to be part of it. It's an exciting Club to be at just now, so I'll just keep working as hard as I can to keep playing first team football."

Great news :agree:

Just reward for the player who presumably benefits from an increase in salary which he richly deserves as a first team regular.

So when is he likely to leave then? I would say either Jan 11 or Summer 11, we'll probably get good coin for him too! Well, if he keeps developing at the rate he is. A rich mans Alan Hutton he is!

Cant help but feel we're watching a special talent, has that something that the others didnt at this age and stage of their careers. Has loads more technical ability then Brown or Thomson do as midfield players (where he'll no doubt end up playing). He has the lot to make it to the top of the game. Somebodys going to have to play extremely well to beat him to the Young Player of the Year award this season. Forbes? Pawlett? Craig Thomson? McArthur? None stand out like he has thus far.

Well done el Tache!!!

Like everyone else I've been thoroughly impressed with Wotherspoon.

He really has taken everything in his stride and nothing seems to faze him.

His intelligence shines through, whether it's on the pitch (adapting to a new position without any fuss) or off it (always articulate with the media and says the right things).

Everything I've seen and heard of him suggests he's a dedicated, model pro and I've no doubt he'll go on to achieve great things, whether that is here or on a bigger stage. A few ex and current team-mates might want to take a leaf out of his book.

I'm looking forward to seeing him settle down in the midfield, either wide or centrally because his technique and direct style is a joy to behold.

Here's to a few more like him coming through.

Excellent news. How many of the double winning under19's will follow suit. Hibs have done very well in recent years but is to much to ask to get more than 1 each year?
