Not a big fan of this sort of violence against people but, as they say, what goes around comes around...

Agreed. At first I saw it as a deeply unpleasant act towards a 70 year old man. Perhaps it still is. Berlusconi is an utter ****** though, and it at least made me smile last night.
Wonder if it's any of his acquaintances partners catching up with him. :greengrin
Ye he's been a womaniser for many years and openly admits to many affairs with hundreds of younger women, wonder if they'd have looked twice at him though if he didn't have the power he had,still he is a 70 year old man.

He still looks like a suave old man though considering he's about 73!

I'm interested to know whether he brought the statue of Milan Cathedral along with the express intention of battering the ****bag with it or if it was just to hand when the rage hit. Or maybe the Brigate Rosse have really let themselves go.
Either way, hi-bloody-larious and commendable.

Would it still have been funny if he killed him?
He's an old man and being smacked in the head with a metal object could potentially have been fatal.
I can't tell from the pictures I've seen if it's just a lightweight piece of crap or if it's a big heavy lump. It certainly looked as if it did some damage.

It wasn't metal. It was made of plaster of Paris.

I can't see how they can call the perpetrator insane when he just did what everyone else would love to do.

I know, he still has a full head of hair, and not a touch of grey. I certainly would like to look like him when I am 73. (Without the caved in puss of course).

:LOL: It said on the news that he was suspected of being hit by a metal object.
The hair thing is funny, didn't he wear a bandana at an official gathering.

Yup. he welcomed his good friends and fellow fascists and money-grubbers Tone and Cherry to Tuxany wearing a wifey's headscarf.

No matter what people think of Berlusconi I don't think it is fair to say that attacking a 73 year old man is commendable.
A defenceless man having an object thrown at his face doesn't make me laugh.

If Berlusconi wants to act younger than his years, I don't think drawing attention to the fact that he is 72 is going to make him feel any better.

I think it is.
It should be considered as one of the first ways to respond to people in positions of enormous power who rack up:
* Holocaust denial.
* Veneration of fascist leaders.
* Complicity in war crimes.
* Corruption on a quite incredible level.
* Racist proclamation upon racist proclamation (including referring to Roma immigrants as an 'army of evil') intentionally (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7500605.stm) creating a culture in which this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7400460.stm) and this (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jul/21/italy.race) sort of thing becomes normalised.
And that's just for starters. I hope it hurt. Alot.

Personally, I don't think physically attacking anyone is the answer regardless of their views. Do you believe that all racists, war criminal and holocaust deniers should be punished with violence?

Nor I. But I'm not going to shed any tears for Berlusconi.
I was going to say he's almost as bad as a Mafia Don, but that would be insulting Mafia Dons.

Does putting them in front of a firing squad count as violence?

I wouldn't necessarily be averse to it. It would depend who was doing the attacking.
