View Full Version : I'm a Celebrity, Arrest me for Animal Cruelty

It's only been a matter of time before someone was taken to task for exploitation of animals. I should have thought the production staff could have intervened with this one though. Or has the national palate been desensitised in the quest for more extreme and original entertainment?
Personally, the death of a rat isn't the biggest deal to me but I can understand how some people mey be upset and/or offended.
The TV 'jungle' is, when all said and done, a controlled, artificial environment with production staff watching the participants every move. Surely, if it were that bad, provisions could have been provided before the creature was killed and carved up.

So the RSPCA are getting upset at a rat killed for food but not millions of cockroaches, crickets, worms, etc in the name of 'entertainment'?

Perhaps it was a Siberian Hamster? Much more cuddly than Rattus Norvegicus, and would explain why Carla Lane could get so ridiculously upset.
Meanwhile in Helmand province.......

:agree: Obviously insects don't have rights.
I find the whole eating challenges thing on that programme disgusting.

Load of rubbish.
They were hungry and are supposed to be experiencing what it's like to live in the jungle.........they killed a rat for food.
Whats the problem again? :faf:
Another case of moral outrage methinks
As said previously, the millions of insects that die for entertainment purposes presumably don't amount to the importance of one rat. :bitchy:

He's highlighting the fact that a large amount of insects are killed on the show yet no one gives a ****.
They kill one rat because they are starving (self imposed) and moral outrage ensues.
I think he wants no moral outrage or people to be outraged about the insects as well. Some consistency!

I think the people outraged about the rat will also be outraged about the insects. Outrage tends to cloud the judgement.

It would seem not or surely the Aussies would have tried to convict them in the past or have the show closed down / moved from their shores (perhaps they have that I've not read of).

Yep, c'mon the rats and the insects!
Hopefully one day a 'celebrity' gets eaten out there and justice will be done.
(Actually I don't give a toss about rats or insects but they rate slightly higher than the people on the show)

That show is an absolutely tragic farce and I sincerely hope all the z-list "celebrities" get a swift kick to the testicles/ovaries from a small boy when they get voted off.

It's all an elaborate hoax. I happen to know that they film this show in the tropical house of the Botanical Gardens at Inverleith. I've even seen Wheatsheaf Catering delivering the bush tucker trials.

I read about this the other day and I thought it was a joke. I really cannot believe that they are being investigated over this incident.
It was a rat that they ate. Big deal!
That's what animals like that are there for.
I don't agree with killing animals just for the sake of killing them and seeing them suffer but if you're going to eat it after you've killed it, then I think that's perfectly reasonable.
It will be very interesting to see what happens to them when they go to court next year.

Rats are enterprising, noble and resourceful creatures. The people who take part in this program seem an inherently worthless crowd of self-serving bores. I would pay to watch them getting eating alive by rats.

Does this now mean in the slums of gorgie, if they find one in their buckets, rat is off the menu?

Exactly what I meant. Millions of insects are killed in the process of showering 'celebraties' with them during certain trials, yet nobody gives a flying fudge. When one rat is killed and eaten, people decide to get all up in arms about it :faf:
Do these people have nothing better to do than complain...?
Because they could at least do a decent job at that and be consistent
When people say "yeah, but the rat was tame", means nothing unless the people on the show have been warned beforehand and told "Please don't eat the rats, they're tame and just for show." Which I very much doubt is the case.
So in short, the people involved need to get a life. There are much more important things going on in the world to start getting up-tight over a rat.
