Bit of a clumsy way to do an auction? could they not just have stuck them on ebay? emailing blind bids is less likley to create a 'frenzy' and as you don't know if you will win are unlikley to bid on more than 1 (in case you end up with more than 1)

When you know 'current bid' you are more likley to bid on a less popular one if you are losing on you initial interest?
