And what a tidy wee stadium it is aswell.

That's the Swedes, Germans, Austrians and Swiss all starting to introduce small, safe manageable, standing area's for their supporters. I wonder if the Brits or Jocks will ever come out the dark ages and start doing the same...?

Something i'd love to see in the 'New East' and something in this day and age we should be seeing, well other than the Scottish Government putting a block to any of it...

Great stuff, and thanks for sharing those pictures with us. It would be great if we stopped hiding behind all this outmoded Taylor Report guff and started to re-introduce controlled seating areas.

I was at Eintrachts stadia a few yrs back --Their seats can be removed.

The Standing area that day V koln was bouncing -amazing atmosphere-we should petition Hibs to have the new stand 2 tiers with the bottom half standing.

We have a number of firsts in our tradition(floodlights, european cup, shirt sponsors, 7-0 at tynie) this would be the hibernian way to be the first team to reintroduce "The Terracing".

It looks like that Malmo 'terracing' is actually the same concrete structure as the seating decks but with a steel 'step' between every concrete step to allow standing. Basically meaning that to change it to an all seater is easy and also that there doesn't have to be any major changes to the fundamental design of their stand to incorporate this.

In other words - if we were to do this in a small section of the east, say for arguments sake, near the south stand end - there wouldn't have to be an expensive redesign of the the stand - just buy some of those steel fittings off the people that did Malmo's stadium! Easy!

Waste of time. As much as I want it, it's never going to happen.

that attitude will get you no-where matey.

I say someone should start a petition. If hibs became the first club to re-introduce standing (might be someone else already, so if there is please ignore) we would probably have more people coming to see it/experience it, so many people talk about how much better it was standing!!!
I think petrie would be willing to listen if it means more money for the club. We're going to get a new stand sooner or later anyway

Spot on.

This is the sort of attitude the British government is counting on. Apathy.

Certainly worth a try. Never liked sitting down at games.

Exactly and the SPL and Scottish Government can be included in this too.

A couple of points. The Taylor report was recommended and introduced at all major British stadia by the English and Scottish leagues around 1990 The government said that all stadia in the top flights must be all seated. The Taylor report didn't just identify a "safe space" was required for each person attending, but were also dealing with other issues such as hooliganism inside and out the stadia as well as drunken fans.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Report

I am sure issues such as this would now be the remit of the Scottish parliament as well as the SPL, so could possibly be changed, and as we are currently analysing the state of our national game from the top down, surely this would be an ideal opportunity for all involved in the game, to do what is considered best for the game. Different technology now exists regarding entry into stadia and if a certain area had to be all ticket to ensure safety, I'm sure that could be done quite easily.

How many SPL games are ever at maximum capacity anyway?

Looks amazing - Oh how I would love to see such a forward thinking attitude shown by the Scottish Football Authorities, having said that the terms "Forward Thinking" and "Scottish Football Authorities" are polar opposites of each other so it's unlikely we'll ever see such nice stadia appear in Scotland!

Would be great if the east could be redeveloped along the lines of the stadium shown here. Especially if a token number of seats could be temporarily added to meet citeria for UEFA sanctioned games and then removed for SPL games. I am sure that the safety issue is now becoming a lame duck excuse. I am sure that +75% of us had to stand for the whole 90 minutes of the game at Tynie even though there were stewards. I was about a dozen rows from the top and I am more than sure that the two fat boys behind me would have been over the top of my head had we scored.:panic:

I am all for a 1 tier stand, but if we could have a 2 tier stand, with the bottom like that, it would be superb.

How can Malmo afford to build that when we cant even build a basic stand ? I wouldnt have thought they are a lot bigger than Hibs.

Where did the money come from and where can we get some ?

Probably sold the old ground to IKEA I suppose.

Nice looking stadium.

I believe the Swedish Bank own half of it, hence the name for their Swedbank Stadion. Nice looking stadium for a 23k seater/27k stander :agree:

Looks good :agree:

The 'safety' argument from officialdom is simply laziness - they can't be bothered trying to make safe standing areas work, so they simply waffle on about Hillsborough and the likes to scare everyone back to apathy land.

:agree: I have argued for a long time that this is the way forward. Would give much greater potential capacity.

If you look at first pic then you will see arrangement is the same as seated areas with the rails for fixing seating too covered by plate steel - this can be removed and seats installed for say concerts..FIFA matches etc.

I would love to know the extra cost of installing this - even before any change of mind by legislators - as building into design is always much cheaoer than retro fitting.
Anyone who has been at large rock concert will know that standing like shown here / Dortmund etc is much safer than drin fulled concerts where there is no barrier separation....and tahts licenced OK

EDIT..atten Pedants..I know spelling is poor above, can't be bothered fixing...fat fingered day

I fail to see how any football fan can be against standing sections bearing in mind there are facts and figures to show there are no safety issues in countries who have them.

If you don't want to stand then just carry on going to the seated areas as the majority of tickets available will be for seated sections. I go to german games every weekend and always choose to sit - leave the standing sections for the young blades who create the atmosphere.

The clubs can benefit as there is an increase in capacity, lower costs when building new stands (terracing and cheap fold down seats as opposed to what Hibs have in other three stands) and the reduced prices will allow more people to attend and ideally encourage more youngsters.

Prices in Germany for standing are ridiculously cheap (€10 - €15 normally) but have paid around €40 for a seat on more than one occasion recently although that does include 10% handling fee the club charges for dealing with away tickets and a postage charge.

The issue for Hibs though would be that they struggle to fill the stadium as it is and they won't want to lose out by having lower prices for a standing section. It's working out what to charge and how many standing to have.

All hypothetical unfortunately.

Anyone else remember doing them 6-0 in the Fairs cup in 1970?
Less than 10 years later they were in the European Cup Final and we were on the way to Division One.
Nice terracing though. Wonder why there were big gaps on ours before we knocked it down.
