How would one go about finding out who owns a property and lets it out to tennants?

My neighbour's dog barks and howls from 8 in the morning til 5/6 at night, without stopping. I complained to her a while back, but she's done sweet FA about it, and goes out to work/college, leaving it home alone all day.

Seeing as she's done nothing, I'd like to now raise it with her landlord before exploring other channels.

Not sure about the landlord thing, but the SSPCA have (I think) pretty comprehensive links to the council/police etc. If the dog is howling all day then there is an issue with the animal that needa addressed at the very least.

Local council should be able to provide you with the information. For Dundee, see here (http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/housing/landlordaccreditation/).

Cheers - my neighbour should be thankful I'm resorting to proper methods and not simply storming her house and putting a bullet in the ****ing mutt!

It's been barking and howling non-stop since 8.15am this morning, and will do so until she gets back from work/college at 6pm - it does this 2 or 3 times a week, which is a royal pain in the arse, as I work from home 2 or 3 days a week!!!!!

Not the dog kill the neighbour. Seriously though record the noise let her hear what you have to put up with and if she doesn't get rid of dog then get in touch with council and sspca.

Put a nice few bits of chocolate laxative through the letter box for the dog while she is away.

She will no want to leave it at home again!!!. :bitchy:

That actually crossed my mind with my previous neighbour, who had a little yippy ******* of a dug (to it's credit, at least this new neighbour has a dog with a proper bark!). They appear to keep the dog locked in the one room, so it doesn't charge the door if, say, the postie pops something through the door.

As someone else above pointed it, it's nae the dug's fault, but **** me, that doesn't make it any less annoying!

You've made me think of that line in Phoenix Nights: "why is it whenever there's a knock at the door, dogs think it's for them?"

Or a valium. Or a viagra and hear her scream when she gets in. She'll soon get rid of it after it's tried to hump her for a few hours.

As far as I'm aware your unlikely to be able to find out who the landlord is due to data protection.

The above links should help you out. Try gathering evidence then get in touch with the council on the number in the 2nd link.

How do you know it doesn't do it 5 times a week? It may do it when you are away too. :greengrin Might do it seven times a week but it might have the weekend off.

I only really care about the days I'm home :greengrin

It does have some days, like today, where there's a serene silence, which is brilliant!

This may sound like a daft question...but have you asked the tenant to provide you with the landlords details?

There is nothing worse than having noisy neighbours. It can affect your whole life, even when you are away from home. The best thing is to get to know them and try and establish a friendly relationship with them so that they'll not want to disturb you.

Unfortunately, many folk are just selfish, drunk, out of control etc and don't care a damn.

I agree with heretoday. Do you know your neighbour? Have you ever spoken to her other than complaining about the dog?

I've had a couple of instances with neighbours (complaint against me and the other way round) that could have been sorted very easily if the people involved had just spoken to each other rather than just getting the authorities involved.

I am a dog owner and my dog is home alone alot right now because my Mrs is living in glasgow during the week so the dog is in the house on his own when im at work. Always go home at lunch and get him a walk and what not though.

Anyway my point is i have no idea if he barks or not, ive only ever heard him bark at the doorbell, never had anyone say he barks in three years of living there but for all i know he could be at it all day?

You should like someone said record it, but if its not above a certain amount of decibels i doubt they will be doing anything about it.

I had a guy upstairs that used to listen to dance music from 10am till about 4pm MEGA LOUD and it was itense and could feel it in the walls but as it was during the day i could barely get anyone to take any notice of me!

A low blow, HT.

Whoops, wait, my apologies. You were talking in general terms.

For the sake of completeness if you want to know who the owner of the property is you can go to www.ros.gov.uk and submit a query. Will cost you two or three quid. Or else try on www.ourproperty.co.uk , which sometimes gives you this info for free.
