View Full Version : Hibernian Legends That Have Never Played For The Club

I'm thinking of people who had made great achievements, lifted our spirits etc, but have no real connection with the club.

1. Albert Kidd. Probably the undisputed hero of them all. Whenever I pick up a Hibernian Greats book, I keep looking for his name, before I remember: wow, he never actually played for us!

There are others though:

2. Jim Jefferies. I know a lot of people think of "Jeff" as a dyed in the wool Yam, and therefore our nemesis, but think of this record:

Yam Captain: 0-7 v Hibernian
Yam Manager: 2-6 v Hibernian
Opposition in cup final manager: 1-5 v Hibernian

Pretty impressive fare, you must admit, and whatever else his record shows, when it comes to the big games aganist us, that man ahs produced the goods.

Vlad must be in the running, as must Larry Kingston and Christian Nade.

Pat Nevin, for his ceaseless championing of the club, must be getting closer.

Thoughts?

Brian Kerr, a goal against the Yams in his first game and yet was unseen in a Hibs shirt. :greengrin

A relatively unsung hero, but it's guys like him, sweating on the treatment table while devouring wages, that are responsible for Hearts being in the fire-sale predicament they are in now.

Go on Mirsad!

Tony Mowbray never played for Hibs.

Christian Nade is becoming a legend. At the moment though there can only be one contender IMO - step forward Commander Saint Vlad, all hail you exaltedness (tugs forelock and strokes Russian hat).

STF is probably the biggest non-playing legend of them all, even though it's fair to say he has some connection to us :cool2:

If Brian Kerr gets in then so does Alan Gordon, missed a sitter in the home game v Killie when Los Yambos lost the league to Killie on goal average. Played for the Yams at the time.

vladimir romanov, graham rix, justin fashanu, beniusless and eduard malofeev have all played their part in making hearts the laughing stock they are today.

Welcome 6-2.

When you start to think that way, there are 400,000 plus people in East Central Scotland who have made just as big a contribution.

:confused:Are we allowed to nominate the entire Yam Fudaspora as Hibs legends? Getting a bit Luke Skywalker for me, I have to say.

Steve Cooper, Centre Forward for Airdrie. Put Hearts out the Scottish Cup and missed a penalty v Hibs in the relegation play-off.

Ah but you have to admit Alan Gordon did play a rather major role for Hibs as well, Brian Kerr was invisible...........

He's such a legend that I've forgotten his name-the Irish guy that Kenny Waugh should have signed instead of the one he did sign.

Former linesman/assistant referee Andy Davis.

Quietly competent and completely unblemished career officiating in the SPL. We wouldn't have a game if it wasn't for his like :agree:

Always liked the story of the guy Watson who played for Airdrie at centre half, can't remember his first name but he was the one with the mop of ginger hair. Anyway, he was/is a Hibby and after scoring in a cup tie against the Jambos ran back up the park shouting HIBEES!!! Not sure if it quite makes him legend status but quality none the less.

Who was the Dundee substitute who scored a winning goal against Hearts and pulled up his Dundee top to reveal a Hibs shirt underneath?

I think he was called Bobby.

Sounds like John Watson, who also played for the Pars, and IIRC was a business partner of the late Norrie McCathie (mind you I'm sure that bloke played at CF, so I could well be wrong).

The same one. :agree:

I am going for Robbie Fowler. When the fans of the week on Soccer AM (The Yams) ribbed Robbie about supporting the huns, Robbie turned round and gave them a chorus of 'Hibees, Hibees, Hibees'. :greengrin

Much though I hate to contradict DBS, my favourite poster, I don't think JJ was Yams captain on that great day in 1973. JJ had only just turned 22 & if I remember correctly was in & out team at that time. I think captain was Alan Anderson which does bring back another great memory of AA, with tongue hanging out, chasing fruitlessly after King Paddy before Jim O made it 6!! I'm sure LHWM or some other poster will confirm one way or other.

Jim Cruikshank, let in countless goals v Hibs, notably at Tynecastle 18 sept 1965.

His feet hardly touched the ground in the first ten minutes! Bless him.
