Very clever manoevering by Salmond.

It's the SNP's unique selling point that they can claim to be the only party which is free enough and has nothing to lose from representing Scotland's interests. Canvassing and polling by all parties, consistently shows that while the SNP cannot claim majority for independence (yet!!), they are seen by well over 60% of those surveyed as being a party capable of representing Scottish interests. If they play that particular tune, the Scottish electorate respond well.

You can tell that the message is getting through in the way some of the headlines in the usual newspapers with a pro-unionist editorial policy are getting a bit desperately anti-SNP - like MacAskill apparently "taunting" the Lockerbie relatives as per the Scotsman or the BBC claiming that Salmond compared MacAskill to Ghandi - which he didn't actually do.

Polls out tomorrow have regional splits which show the SNP comfortably ahead in westminster voting intentions in one poll and neck-and-neck with Labour in the other. Happy days if you want to see the SNP do well. Hopefully they'll slash Labour's majority in Glasgow NE and go on to take a few more seats at the election.

Still think 20 is a bit many, but they should manage 10, 15 at best. I would be disappointed with less than 10.

I can see Scottish Labour getting that desperate they will accept Orange Order help.

Too bad the Order can't do much with all the knuckle dragging and windae licking they do.

Why do the Orange Order have a problem with Scottish Independence? As far as I'm aware the Queen would still be head of state, and so their objective - maintaining a Protestant monarch - wouldn't be compromised.

Scotland is a very strange place sometimes.

Is Alex Salmond not counting on there being a hung parliament?

Anger management classes not working then??

Whatever you might think of him, Alex Salmond is the most politically astute politician of quite a few generations and by leading the SNP to its current position of governing, he has shown dramatically the utter bankruptcy of the opposition, Labour in particular!!

The Eckmeister is hoping that the electorate will hang Liebour out to dry. Anything beyond that will be 'cream for the cat'!

It's nothing to do with Scotland, everything to do with Northern Ireland. If Scotland became an independent country it would put NI in a different context IMO, as it would be harder to justify unionism if there was no union.

It would be nice if the SNP would try to fulfil some of their manifesto promises that encouraged the Holyrood vote. It's clear that voters are happy for them to bein control(almst)there while desire for independence bumps along at the usual around 30%.

The problem with Eck's current plans are that he expects there to be a hung parliament.

As it stands we're in for a tory landslide.

But not in Scotland shurely?

A Tory landslide in Scotland would not suit the Eckmeister's strategy since it would imply that the Tories had strengthened their position in Scotland to say 5 MPs from 1 now. That would give Cameron a far greater amount of authority than he would have in a hung parliament and maybe completely erode his need for any kind of deal with the SNP.
