Scotland plane almost crashed - HARDLY

The pilot maneuvered a fly around which is a standard procedure for any pilot. No-one was never in any danger during this fly around.

tbh after reading the article it sounds more like a near miss crash than a standard fly around :cool2:

I read this on Ceefax last night and marveled at the sub standard reporting skills of what seems to be the majority of the meedja in Scotland.

I believe the Ceefax headline was 'Scotland plane in mid-air incident.'

:faf:

Just noticed this line:

"Some of the players got a real fright and Stephen McManus seemed a calming influence."

Haha, amazing what that rag will do to create an overhyped story. I read about this in the Guardian last night and it was simply a case of the plane on the runway ahead not having cleared the runway in it's take off and the pilots aborting so they could land safely second time around. Said nothing about any hysterical reactions from passengers or staff though.

IF what is being reported is anything near accurate then I don't think that having to pull up whilst 50ft above the runway is the sort of thing that happens all the time.

I was involved in a go around last month, it is actually very common and standard thing to do in the situation, it can be unnerving as you are about to touch down t and the pilot puts on full thrust and you go back up.

Its as stated a non story really.

Indeed a non-story. Here is chapter & verse to calm any nervous flyers (or sensationalist journalists)

Here is a video. I does look quite hairy 3 minutes in when he is at 50ft!

Maybe Lee Wallace tried to hi-jack the plane with a sawn-off ?

It must have been the "Ah'll just have a wee look at the ****ing altimeter" that did it as he lurched across the pilot's seat!

It does. I've had it happen about 3 times during the last year.I've had it happen 3times in one flight at two different airports.. Bangor Maine and Boston! Nightmare at the time but I know now it's standard proceedure, especially at single runway airports :agree:

Sun revealing today about the scotland team's second "terror flight".

Not reported here in the UK, but Japan was hit by a typhoon over the last couple of days (Typhoon Melor) and you wouldn't want to be landing a plane in those conditions.

It just seems awful close before you realise there's another plane there.

This from the west coast rag

players and officials gripped seats and each other in terror as the plane was tossed around violently on its approach.

Exactly, it's happened to me on about a dozen occasions & for 9 of these it was because the plane in front didn't clear the runway in time. I believe it's an unusual day at Heathrow when there's not a fly around given there's only 45 seconds between landings. Another good reason not to buy that rag.

They are aware it is there but you can't really stick the brakes on for a bit and wait for it to clear, you need to keep going. You don't really know if the plane on the ground will move or not and there's a fairly late point of no return where if it is still not clear you do the fly around.

Maybes the airline had Burley mastermind the approach and tactics for the landing....they have learned their lesson now. Unfortunately, the SFA haven't :grr::grr::grr:

It's also worth mentioning that Riordan and McManus narrowly avoided a huge punch-up on the plane over McManus having an affair with Deek's girlfriend.

The ugly confrontation was marginally missed thanks to McManus not having done that and Deek never having suspected him of it and as such, it wasn't a topic of discussion.
