As 3 minutes is clearly required after....

3 subs + player stretchered off + need for replacement ball + sending off incident + other wind related delays

then anything's possible.

I may be wrong, but I think the rule is that the referee should play at least the number of minutes on the board - the 3 minutes was a minimum. It's up to the referee if he wants to play longer, but the fourth official tells him the LEAST amount of time the various stoppsges have caused.

Hey, we'd be raging of he'd played 6 and we'd lost.

That's how I understand it except that the ref actually tells the 4th official what to put on the board (or at least confirms that he agrees before it is shown to the crowd).
