Picked up a guy last night and started talking football, he was rather pished and mentioned how good Rangers were the other night and how unlucky they were to get beat. I sort of laughed and mentioned the fact that they let in 4 goals and thought they were naff, he then went on to say both Hibs and Hetz are totally crap and the Huns will walk the league by 20-30 points, with Celtic not far behind.
I tried to point out that both the OF were crap and a lot of teams will take points off them this year, telling him to look at the Aberdeen game last saturday as an example.

This is another example of the many Rangers and Celtic supporters we have here in the East, blinkered in their views of other teams, no matter how good we are playing, the OF are brilliant and everyone else is crap and that's the way it'll always be.

Please, please, please......let these deluded people in to the EPL so we don't have to listen to their drivel for the rest of our lives.:wink:

I wonder if, having decided to turn their back on their local community and team, these glory hunters go out of their way to justify their decision. In much the same way as converts to a religion are often the most zealous.

Take it that you drive a taxi.

Should have locked your doors and delivered him to the ERI as he was obviously suffering from memory loss. Alternatively you could have gone straight to St Leonards Police Station with him and demanded that he was "celled" for the night for talking pash. You could've said that he refused to pay his fare.

I would be gobsmacked if that lot end the season 20-30 points ahead of us. It would either mean that they have really turned their season around or we've been relegated. More likely the latter.

Hopefully the huns will take a good hiding at the weekend and we do the business against Dundee United.

Right thinking taxi drivers should have:
lock all doors, seal the back, release poisonous gas option for such moments

I read that refusal to pay a taxi fare in Scotland is a civil matter and not a legal matter. Therefore, the police cannot force the person to pay for the service or even force them to provide their details.

The taxi driver is also at risk of prosecution should they not let them out or take the matter into their own hands.

However, if you take them to the station the police will probably cell them for the night or try and charge them with breach of the peace should they give any backchat.

Can anyone confirm if non payment of taxi's in Scotland is a civil matter? I read that the payment is enforceable by police in England due to different systems.

No one answered when I raised this on another thread which I think gave me my answer!

There is a charge of Taxi Fraud but the police don't use it very often. There was a case in Kilmarnock sheriff court last year where somebody was charged with this and fined for bumping a taxi that had brought them from Prestwick. £150 fine but the driver will probably still be waiting for his fare. Normal attitude from police is get money upfront even if it's a £3 hire as they're not interested. I took one to police station who had money but refused to pay. Their attitude was he's got 30 bob in change will that do. I said fare was a fiver. They said how can he be held responsible look at the level of inebriation. If same person steals a bottle of whisky from Asda he gets done but it's ok to steal from a taxi driver.

That's a joke.

The whole fine system in the country is a joke. The charge people a fiver a week when they've got big fines. If it's compensation I think I'm correct in saying that the receipient only gets it when it's paid.

If that is correct then the legal system should pay out the money and that way they would care more about collecting them.

It's a matter I've never really looked into, the locked doors are there for safety reasons, for kids and not for keeping punters locked in until they pay, although it is a deterent and usually they pay. The last punter I had that refused to pay, I just turned the cab around and drove him right back to where he began, he went daft and started shouting, I told him either pay up, go to the police or I'd take him to a quiet road and give him a bloody good kicking for wasting my time. Suddenly the money appeared and he payed up and apologised, this sometimes works but if it doesn't I have driven them all the way back and told them to piss off and walk.

Generally if you get into a taxi you are agreeing a contract to pay the fare on the meter at the end of the journey and the police usually get it sorted, whether it's a civil or legal matter I do not know.

I was told by the desk sergeant at Gayfield that if you know they have no money when they get in the car then it is a civil matter, but if they get in and make out they have money it is theft.

The police tend to be pragmatic about things. I had a bloke who was unconscious in the back, and I didn't want to just dump him as it was a cold night. I took him to West End polis to get him off my hands. They asked "how much is on the meter", it was standing at £25 because I'd had to take him round the town finding a station that was manned. They took the money out his pocket and gave me the fare.

Quality Top marks to the L&B. :top marks

Reminds me of a story a friend told me a few years back. Him and his mate were out drinking in Elgin one night and at the end of the night his mate, the worse for wear, hailed a taxi to take him to Aberlour about 12 miles drive away. On the way there his mate fell asleep and was woken by the taxi driver who told him the fare was £40. When he asked the driver why it was so much he was told that was the standard fare from Elgin to AVIEMORE. £40out of pocket and now 35 miles from home in the early hours of the morning probably taught him not to fall asleep in the back of a taxi. :agree:

I hate that sort of edinburgh OF fan!

Whenever I encounter them I always make a point of refering to them as "glasgow" celtic and "glasgow" rangers. It annoys them if you say it enough times because you know you're onto them.

That tees them up and all it usually takes is the "why do you support them if you're not from glasgow?" question to get them spouting off their list of pre-rehearsed reasons. It's the non-weegies who always shout the loudest about their "love" for their club.. and how bad the local teams are.

As for bumping cabbies...It's not a civil matter as some might suggest. There is a specific charge and it's not really worth it. Depending on the driver it might be a "large mag-lite" matter and believe me, If a driver was was ever accused of assaulting someone who tried to bump them there would no doubt be other drivers who just happened to witness the incident backing up his side of the story.

That sounds like a good strategy, and I will definitely give it a go.:agree:
