Anyone else manage to catch this on BBC3 last night?

As Harry Rednapp would say - "What a load of old tosh"

Michael Jackson was posthumously honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Why did the Jackson family feel the need to give us what looked like a re-run of his memorial?

Granted I am probably in the wrong age category (just :greengrin ) to appreciate the music that was performed and to give a fair comment on the awards but still say it was tosh. :agree:

Personally I don't watch the awards or take any interest in them. I don't like the name of it, if I wanted to start a MOWO awards today I'd probably be flung in a cell.

Surely the need for these awards are now redundant given the modern era.

As I understand they originated because black people were shunned at the award ceremonies almost two decades ago when they should have won.

I laughed at JLS getting best song for Beat again! Is that really the best they could find?

:music: If I die would you cry at my funeral :music: :singing:

I have no problem with Music Of Black Origin because IMO it desribes the music fairly accurately. It doesn't mean that the awards are Black Only and whites are excluded.

Don't think there is much need for the MOWO awards when there is already ceremonies for Country and Western music around:wink:

totally agree.

racialising music is ****ing insane and these awards should be viewed as so ridiculous that nobody should turn up imo.

musical styles are not rigid on race, all of genres and styles have been influenced by music from other continents and countries etc, (eg the Rolling Stones).

I appreciate that white people can win it but the name is explicit in terms of where the music style is generated from and in this new liberal country I don't think it should be as explicit as it is.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it or even give it a thought after this thread but it's just one of those little annoyances in knowing that if a country and western awards ceremony was renamed the MOWO awards there would be a media/lefties backlash about equality and racism.
