Last season under mixu, it was clear we were playing the wrong formation, right from the first friendly games. Yet week in week out, he persisted in doing so. We did not then have the players to play his system, but that did not seem to matter to him, stubborn right to the end.
A new season, a new manager, and again we have a system that is not working. Yes we have 9 points, more down to the strikers at the club than any formation we seem to be playing imho.
Again we have no width, something we complained about last season. Our full backs are supposed to supply this, but they are converted centre backs. They are both not the best in their first touch, that gives the opposition time to shut them down. They are both not what i would call that comfortable on the ball, or running with the ball, so that's a hindrance in the way yogi wants his full backs to play.
If we are to have full backs who are to be attacking full backs, then get the right kind of players in, before you try this system. Until such times, play the players to their strengths, make us harder to break down, make teams have to create their own chances, rather than them feeding off our mistakes, and let the quality players further up the pitch try and win the games for us.
We don't have the players for any other formation than 4-4-2. This 3 in midfield just does not work, A, when the 3 we have up front, wont battle back and help. B, the 3 in midfield are always out numbered, and C, the 2 players we want to join in further up from the wide positions, are just not very good at doing so.
Lets get back to basics, and get the players in that CAN do the jobs at full back, in the next transfer window, or the one after that, but until such times as we do have those players, lets play to OUR strengths, and not make it easier than it has to be for the opposition.
