Can someone confirm that this was the game when we played them off the park in the first half and took the lead... only for Houchen to see the red mist, chase a defender down and boot him from behind?

Answers on a postcard...

Not sure, but I remember Houchy being restrained from thumping Peter Grant. What made it worse for Houchy was that Grant just smiled at him and blew him a kiss.

I don't remember the 4-0 defeat in 98 - funny how you can erase some games from your memory.

Was thinking the same thing - still did they not whip Aberdeen 5-0 in the cup.

The 4 - 0 game was in the LC, when we were in the firstdivision. We had put out undefeated Aberdeen in the previous round, live on BBC. Think this was Sandy Clarks first game in charge of the Saints.

Bad memories...

Was this the game we where 2 or 3 down in the first 15 mins, huge hibs support at the game 3500+ still coming through the turnstyles even when we where getting pumped? Bad memories :grr:

Was over 5000 Hibs fans that day as I remember the StJohnstone fans singing "what a ****y away support" when they went 4 up and most of us exited the stadium. This game is mentioned in last Saturdays programme in the Paul Kane section, Kano was playing for StJ that day. His only memory is that Hibs had a very large support he even said the StJ backroom staff said it was the biggest seen at their stadium outwith the OF.

Typical we got pumped :grr:

thread title got me thinking, St Johnstone have done well in the Cups in recent years i think, and a wee check on wikipedia says that they got to the Scottish Cup semi's two years running plus the CIS semi when we played them...

When St Johnstone became one of the first clubs to move to a purpose built all-seater stadium free of debt I thought they could steal a march on those saddled with forking out for moves/upgrades to the detriment of the team (some of which we've seen across the division).

So I've been surprised that nothing much came from it. However now they appear to be on a solid foundation building on the foundations laid by Coyle. In McInnes they look to have a savvy manager who will likely cause a few upsets. Lets hope they don't start with us in the cup.

About right. Probably our best performance of that season up until the point Houchen kicked Tommy Turner, a midfielder up the arse. Roddy Grant scored in the last minute to put us out. Must have been 6,000 Hibbies there that day.

I was living in Australia for the 1998 game thank goodness. I was told by family who were there that this was the turning point for Hibs that season. Paul Tosh tried 3 times to trap a ball on the touchline and it ran out of play. McLeish and Watson couldn't believe it and this was the catalyst for buying Sauzee and Latapy to get us out of Div 1. Every cloud has a silver lining :greengrin

I was at the 98 game which was fresh on the heals of the Stranraer debacle and a 4-2 pumping at home by Ayre Utd. I took a strop and vowed not to return until they got their act together.

Cue Sauzee and Latapy signing and us going on a massive unbeaten run.

I didn't go back until at least the new year however.. had to keep to my word !!
