Anyone who is good with stats know how many penalties he has taken for Hibs (in total from both spells) and how many he has missed (in total from both spells)

I reckon he has obviously scored far more than he has missed but I do seem to have memories of him missing a fair few - especially when we are awarded one that needs to be scored to get us back into the game.

I think he is a top player and am not saying he should be off pens but maybe it should be alternated as to who takes penalties.

I'm not the biggest John Rankin fan but he used to take them for ICT and was pretty good at them.

Under Collins, it was a case of if you earned the penalty then you took it or you could ask the captain to choose a taker.

By standing where he did, (slightly off centre so there was a wider gap to his right than there was to his left) then I think the Hamilton 'keeper conned Riordan into placing the penalty where he did.

Given the choice between tucking one away to win the Derby at Tynecastle or scoring a consolation in a game we didn't deserve anything from i would prefer he scored the former.

As you say he is not perfect but i can't think of anyone else in the Hibs team who i would prefer to be given the responsibility.

Stokes?

Would possibly give him a penalty to give him a goal to help him settle but don't see him as a penalty taker/dead ball specialist as such.

Riordan is on most of the free kicks in dangerous areas so Yogi must consider him competent at the very least, the penalty was saved and at least on target.

In terms of delivery/quality on the ball Wotherspoon whips in some great balls so i would be looking at the likes of him or Zemmama before Stokes to be honest.

That's if Wotherspoon was playing of course.

Stokes?

Not at the moment, I agree that Rankin should take them - always seemed to score them for ICT.

I can remember a couple in simalar situations that have been missed but what i was confused at was why rankin tookl the freekick we had on the edge. Even if it was a bit close Deeko has to surely be on every free kick within shooting range.

Ronnie Simpson saved ten pens in a row (I think it was 10) for Hibs using that trick - before he was finally rumbled.

Dont think deek fancied it! If you remember the wall was at most 7-8 yards away?
Definatle saw riordan say to him just before they ran up 'you take it'
Wasnt really much room for deeks to get it up and down from where he was and with the wall being where it was a dont think many players could score!!

It wouldnt have mattered who took it.... it was never going to find the back of the net.

It was just one of those days.... not to mention that those Hamilton huddys done their best to put Riordan off.

IMO.... they should have had all their players sent off for that one.... giving us a default 3-0 win.

IMO Hamiltons remonstrations with the ref and the battle with Zoumma caused too much delay. Deeks had far too long to wait and it was a certainty that he'd not put it away.

Regardless how long he has to wait he should compose himself and then make the goalie wait, take it when he is ready then miss it. :greengrin
