I think Yogi will stick with Hogg and move Murray to left back in place of Hanlon. Apart from that I don't see many changes for the weekend.

Think Bamba might be injured so straight swap with Murray. If we do not sign Miller the Put McBride in there and if we don't sign volz then put McCormack in.

You'll probably find that Hughes finds McBride his most crucial player right now in terms of how we play so no danger he will miss out for Murray.

Ok this is the probibiltiy of players not injured i.e I htink bamba will miss so easy swap for murray.

I put deek in but if he has not recovered It will be nish who starts.

Ive dropped rankin because its hard to leave a player of zoumas ability out of the squad when fit and i dont see how wotherspoon can be dropped.

Bench - Maka, Benji, Galbraith, stevenson, Nish, Byrne, bamba

I would like to ask the same question about Rankin this season that I asked of Stevenson last season - what does he offer us?

He is not:

- The guy who breaks up the play
- The guy who makes the telling pass
- The guy who sprints down either wing
- The guy who puts his foot in, in the midst of battle
- The guy who carves open the defence.

He is:

- The guy who keeps trying to repeat his fluke shot of last year.

Despite the above, I'm actually not on a witch hunt. I'm just looking for someone to point out to me what I've missed eg. the value he brings to the side and the role he plays.

What does he do?

I think there's a heck of a lot more about Rankin than Stevenson so think that comparison is a bit unfair. One thing I like about Rankin is that he tries to make things happen- it doesn't always work out but you don't see him hiding or simply passing the buck to others. He's not great at anything in particular but is busy and determined, capable of a goal and an assist and does a lot of covering- yeah I know.. 'Unseen work'

Sort of off topic here but why are we playing Sunday? Is there something else on in Hamilton on Saturday because we don't appear to be on the tv and I can't think of any other reason we would be playing sunday

Edit: Motherwell v Rangers?

Is how I would line up but can't see Hughes dropping Hogg - more likely Hanlon to drop out for Murray.

Should be dominating this game so I'd go with Wotherspoon at the back as opposed to McCormack

It's a mystery to me. I have asked and asked and either I get some old horse that doesn't even remotely resemble the truth or blank expressions.

Perhaps with Miller's arrival I can stop having to ask the question.

It might take a few weeks but ultimately Rankin's place is most at risk with Miller arriving.

If it means Rankin raising his game further to keep his place then great, we want the best players to be playing.

Rankin is a great professional and works hard. He has some attributes but really, if we want to really achieve things with this club the likes of Rankin will not be the ones to lead us there.

Miller might just be the type of player who could, however. He is a far more cultured footballer but we'll need to wait and see just whether that was all potnetial or whether he can actually play a bit to justify the levels he has been at previously.

It always amazes me that we underperform all the time and yet whenever we sign anyone there's outrage that someone might lose their place - if we were winning things all the time none of them would.

It's also a squad game and we'll need all the quality depth we can get later on.

It's never a bad measure to judge a team's true quality by what they have on the bench.

That was my team, not what I expect Hughes to play, but I think you'll probably find that Murray can do everything McBride can do, and do it better and do more on top of that, which is why I'd pick him in that role.
