We could have the worlds best manager in charge but they can only work with the players they have available. We are not a good team, we are average and that's it....

No it's not. Scotland had a good enough squad to finish runner up, nae problem.

I disagree, i think we are a good team with good players who should have been able to finish 2nd no problem.

Manager and team never stood a chance. As soon as he finally stood up to the west coast mafia the press were out to get him. Whether he has done well or not since, he was never going to be given the chance by the weegie press and as a result he will now probably lose his job.

We will never know what could have been if this team had been allowed to grow. Its obvious Burley has struggled but the only way forward is to bring in a foreign coach with some sort of idea of discipline now. Then when he is hounded out in a similar way people may start to see that the sfa is a crooked and unprofessional institution.

:blah: Yer talking gash - the manager of any team is an imensely influencial figure - how else would you explain the likes of Aberdeen beating real Madrid (and the rest) on the way to European triumph for example???

Burley is not the worst Scotland manager of recent times - his team put up a great performance tonight and were unlucky to lose - but over the piece he's come up short on numerous occasions - whether through bad selections or disasters such as boozegate happening under his watch - and these shortcomings have had a far greater impact on Scotland's WC qualy chances than Hollands goal tonight IMO.

Scotland came far closer to qualification last time out in a much harder group with pretty much the same pool to choose from so to say that the manager makes no difference is pure BS :grr::bye:
