Not sure about the other best player but did go to a Blackburn v Huddersfield game in 2001 and Damein Duff was fantastic. So fast and skillful.

Kenny Dalglish - Although maybe not in the games I saw him in.

Joe Baker - Again maybe not in the games I saw him in as it was during his second stint at Easter Road. His first game back at home to Aberdeen and get in there.

Derek Riordan & Thierry Henry, although ask again in a few years and Messi might surpass Thierry's achievements.

Interesting choice.

A great player without a doubt. He and Pat Quinn in the same team were a sight to behold. Pure natural brilliance would sum it up.

For Hibs I'm undecided between Riordan, Latapy and Sauzee

Otherwise, Carlos Tevez

I'd agree with that. And if I recall had John Brownlie scored the penalty instead of missing it Hibs would have gone through to the next round on away goals.

I'd also add in Jim Leighton.

Sauzee is the best player i've seen at Hibs, and i've seen some good ones. Best, Stanton, Goram, Latapy etc

Away from Hibs, I think it would need to be Cruyff

Sauzee or Latapy for Hibs.

Away from Hibs, either Zidane or Ronaldinho (when they were at their peak..frightening)

Probably not a popular choice now but for several years Darren Jackson kept us afloat almost single handed. At a time when we were quite average Jacko always had something different.

I've always enjoyed the flair players as well Matty Jack, David Farrell, etc etc:wink:

I did see Pele play but he was not at his best best.

I saw Eusebio at his peak and he was awesome so he gets it.

Best Hibs player I have seen is Sauzee who edges out Latapy with Steve Archibald probably third.

Best anywhere: Gordon Smith

Best memory: I was one of the wee lads standing near the corner flag at the bottom of the slope (for the second half) when Gordon faced a raw young full back called Dennis Mochan, brother of Celtic's Neil, who played, I think, for East Fife. (We were all up the other end next to Willie Ormond for the first half, of course.)

Young Dennis tried his very best but Gordon beat him in a different way each time he faced him, it went on all afternoon long. It was awesome to see Gordon's catalogue of tricks - always followed by a devastating cross, usually to Lawrie Reilly, or a sizzling shot.

At the end of the game, Gordon shook Dennis' hand as they walked off the field together.

Zemamma on form for Hibs.

Messi is prob the best player Ive seen, but Paul Scholes had the best performance Ive ever seen; every pass, and alot of them were cross field balls covering a fair bit landed perfectly, and capped off with a decent goal.

i really envy the older generation at times.

from what i have read(and also speaking to some of the older supporters)they say he was the best player they had ever seen.

and they included stanley mathews who many of our english counterparts think was the greatest english player ever.

he really must have been some player in his prime..never tire of hearing or reading stories about the great man

so all you older supporters and youg ones keep the stories comming. would love to have seen him play .but my most cherished hibs possesion(and ive got a few)

is a signed football card by the great man...anyway back to the thread best all round hibs player i have seen would be stanton or sauzee....

non hibs player without a shadow of doubt diego armando maradona

If you mean simply the best player (at whatever stage of his career) then answering both of your questions is easy; George Best, by some distance.

If you mean by actual performance in the game I was at then it's a little more difficult.

Hibs: Andy Goram in the derby game where even the Jambos were singing his name by then end. Never seen a better goalie, in the flesh or on tv.

Ever: No one performance sticks out but seen some great displays from Gazza, Hristo Stoichkov, Kaiser Franck, Glenn Hoddle, the list goes on really. Don't make me choose :bitchy:

Kevin McAllister - just thought he could turn on a sixpence and retain posession. Hard worker too although the best game I ever saw from him was when he'd moved to Falkirk and soooo nearly put Hearts out of the cup in 98. Think he scored twice then.

Best other player I've seen in the flesh? Not been to many other non-Hibs games but I saw Gazza and always thought he was superb.

Pat Stanton is the best player I've seen play for Hibs - not just for one game or one season, but year after year after year a genuine star.

Best performance against Hibs - I HATE saying this, but in all fairness it has to be Billy Bremner in the UEFA Cup tie in 1973-74 when we lost on penalties.

He was totally immense that night, and if it hadn't been for him we'd have won that game by 3 or 4 goals.

The greatest player by career stats, name and reputation I've ever seen was probably Ferenc Puskas, playing for Real at ER in 1965.

Or then again, maybe Di Stefano that same night.

Stanton (Hibs)

Best, Cruyff, Mardona, Beckenbauer, Van Basten, Zidan, Platini ...... take your pick.

There are too many great players from the past to pick any one indiviual. I'm just pleased that I've been fortunate enough to see so many.

Still think that Van Basten's premature retiral deprived us of an exceptional talent.
