AND a few other things. :agree:
Cancer - the great leveller?
If ever there was a family that was cursed, it had to be the Kennedy's.

Cancer - the great leveller? :cool2:
First part :agree: Like the whole clan, massive closets full of rattling bones
Second part: Bit less compassion than Mr Al Megrahi received from you?

No - simply an animadversion upon the unconscious irony of life.
And the transience of human existence.
You may have misunderstood my use of the smiley. I have removed it.
My sympathy's with him and his family - a brain tumour's a horrible thing.

There will be those that say that Karma was at work. That the sins of the father were visited on the sons.
Not me, though. I'm staying out of it

Joe Kennedy was a real piece of work. :agree:
Friend and supporter of Hitler, business associate of Sam Giancana, collaborator with Joe McCarthy - anti-Semite, anti-Communist, anti-Britain. Alleged bootlegger during Prohibition.
The Man Who Bought Illinois in 1960 - and who may well have thereby brought about the death of JFK.
I don't think any of his children had much of a childhood, rich as they were.
As I say, my sympathy for him in his death and his family in their bereavement.

Fair enough on all points.
And spot on in your other post regarding Joe the patriarch. A thoroughly unpleasant individual, who had he got away with what he wanted to do, would have made America a much worse place than it is now. And indeed a much worse place than even you think it it is now.
That higher court that pronounces these final judgements will be a busy place for a while.

When Joe Kennedy died, there was an organisation ready and willing to step into his shoes and do all the things he was doing.
It's called "The Republican Party".
See under "Richard M Nixon", "Spiro T Agnew", "Ronald Reagan", "Newt Gingrich", George H W Bush", George W Bush", "Donald Rumsfeldt", "Neo-Cons", "The Academy of the Americas", "Condoleeza Rice", "Sarah Palin"....
Sadly, the Democrats when they do get power, seem to be either unwilling or unable to really challenge these people.
But don't assume you know what I think of America - I don't judge any people by the leaders they elect.

Wonder why Joe and his boys were all democrats-Ted Kennedy was an interesting character-a seeming sleazeball in his private life but a terrific fighter on behalf of the under priviledged in his public one.

:agree: FDR was no lilywhite in HIS private life either, but he was without doubt a great President and a great man at home and in foreign affairs, whether you agree with him all the way down the line or not.
I've sometimes thought that of the three brothers he would have made the best President, despite his faults. And then, who doesn't have faults?

His passing is sad. Sadder still are the conservatives who are celebrating the fact.

I find it amazing that a week before his death from a brain tumour, this guy was still able to sign a motion condemning Scotland for freeing Megrahi. Now that is what you call fighting to the end.

A combination of money, influence and dirty laundry his old man held on high ranking officials and politicians.
