Im thinking about a future in the police and ive been having a look at this course and it interests me, also says that it could help out people that are intending to have a career in the police force, was just wondering how useful would it actually be or would i be better off doing a different degree?

It might be worth contacting the police and asking them(it might take a while to get an answer though). Let them know you are considering this course but you wanted to know if they thought it would be worthwhile.

Edit: I think that link is just for England and Wales.

Does it make any difference if you do a degree before you go in?
Rather you than me though.

An Information Technology degree would be the greatest asset in the modern police force.

That's what I'm doing and it's a lot of mince. Unless of course anyone wants to hire me in a year in which case it's super

"Crime and Society degree - Striling Uni"
Where that?
Could see a degree being very helpful. Try getting in touch with Tulliallan, maybe? They'd surely help and advise.

:tee hee:
Also remember that you will possibly lose most of your friends if you decide upon this course of employment.

Try becoming a bouncer for a few months.
You will learn how to abuse your power in the most needless of situations and then give answers like 'Cos I said so' with no legitimate reason. This will help your police career dramatically.

The thing about Stirling (and possibly other unis, I'm not sure) is that even if you choose to do this, it is possible to change the main focus of your degree after 2 years if you want to.
When you first start you will be doing 3 different courses - Crime & Society + 2 other subjects of your choosing. You could potentially do a combined degree as well, i.e. Crime & Society and English, or whatever.
Also, a degree is not 100% necessary for the polis, but studying crime / sociology / law / criminology type stuff seems as good a place as any to start IMO.
Thanks also, you've just made me realise I should be a careers adviser :greengrin
