I did a Google search on 'Hibernian' last week and there was a 'hibernian.premiumtv.co.uk' URL result that came up on maybe the fourth or fifth page of organic Google search results. I clicked the link but went to a 404 error so whatever it was, the link had been broken. I wouldn't stake my house on it, but unless it was a development server project by someone at Premium TV, i.e. they could have used it in a pitch to the club for the undertaking of the Hibs website, I can't think of any other reason why this URL would have come up unless Hibs were intending to use it.

Depends how it's administered perhaps?

Exactly. Premium TV most likely provide all the content templates and support for the design features, but Hibs are ultimately responsible for the content population and management of the website internally. Premium TV could turn out to be a decent move for Hibs if it is actively maintained and managed.

:agree:

Given that the consensus seems to be that the current site is not user friendly enough (not a view I share incidentally) the new set up should suit many and especially if the content is of the standard shown this season

Indeed, the content has been much better of late. I actually think that if the club are prepared to invest wisely in a good web provider and have people within the organisation actively updating content and managing the website, there isn't the need for using the likes of Premium TV. I quite like the new Man City website here

Chelsea also won an industry award for their site.

In saying that, these teams obviously have more money to throw at it than what Petrie ever would :greengrin

It was reported that Man City's site cost them around the 2million mark! I know roughly what the Hibs budget was for our site and it wasn't quite 2 million bucks ...

It really is all to do with the design of it though. The Premium TV templates are pretty practical when it comes to highly content-driven websites, and if you manage to maintain a clean design you will end up with something in the same guise at what Chelsea have to offer - lots happening but still easy on the eyes.

IMO, from some of the things Hibs have done in the past (catalogues, leaflets, brochures, billboards etc) I think we could produce a much classier-looking website than that. In John Nicol we clearly have a superb graphic designer as he has produced material of a very high standard in the past.

The design is important, there is no doubt. But what will separate the good from the average club website is a real dedication to creating customer-focussed content and features. Ultimately, we are the end users of the website and so having a pretty looking website isn't going to be as effective as if we have a website that is easy to use, clearly meets and exceeds our information requirements, whilst also making our online purchases secure, quick and seemless.

The Man City one is good. Clean(-ish) design, distinctive. I hope Hibs also have something that is unique to the club.

The Chelsea and Leeds sites are hyperactive and full of clutter. The Leeds one in particular has the look of a car-boot sale.

I don't care who provides the templates as long as the functionality and content improve.

There seems a lot of folk over-reacting about something that they haven't actually seen yet.

Going by the couple of screenshots it does look pretty neat and tidy. There is something a bit 'rough' about the Leeds site but looking at those (albeit very limited) shots, it's looking nice.

Im in agreement with the man city site, looks clean and navigation is simple and effective. I think that hibs need something similar, hopefully the server side of things for the new site will be a bit faster, i'd often find myself having a shower and dinner before i've recieved enough content to watch a hibs.tv video file without it stopping and starting every ten seconds. all in all though its another step for hibernian football club in the right direction and long may that continue. by god do our supporters deserve it.

Problem is that the best web sites are usually fairly simple, uncluttered with its content nicely organised.

Football sites on the other hand are overloaded with content, even the award winning Chelsea one is a bit busy for my tastes.

The quality of Hibs design output has been very good in recent times I must say (and I actually am a graphic designer, so I know a bit about what I'm talking about ) so I'm sure the new site will stick with the house style that's been laid down across the more recent communications from the club.

Consistency of style is where its at for me anyway.

It looks to me that on the splash page the image above 'up-to-the-minute-news' looks like it could be the new site.
