Did anyone think the pitch looked pretty crap for the first game of the season.

I think Yogi mentioned this in the post mach interview on the bbc - he said something about the grass being slightly too long? Can't be bothered to listen again to check!

Given the rain overnight and this morning I was amazed to see the sprinklers on before the game and at half time. What is that all about?

I'd say that Yogi has had some say in this. Rain had fallen for most of the previous day and night so irrigation was definitely not required for the health of the turf, which leads me to believe that its to do with having a slick surface for the ball to be passed on. firm/wet surfaces are great for zipping passes around which i'm told is Yogi's style! :agree:

There was a big chunk taken out in the east/south corner which Gallacher kindly replaced at the end of the first half.

I agree with the sprinkler idea tho, wet grass makes passing a lot easier ive always felt

Bowling green, do we actually think that the groundstaff would allow it to grow long in direct contrast to the managers preference?

I think not.
