View Full Version : How many points from first 5 matches?

Home v St Mirren
Away v Falkirk
Home v Celtic
Away v Hamilton
Home v St. Johnstone

How many points? My guess is that we will go Draw, Draw, Loss, Win, Win - expecting us to start well, but struggle with goals - so 8 points out of 15.

Also, I cannot remember many wins on the opening day of the season. Only one I remember was away at Tiny:thumbsup:. Can anyone confirm our record in the last 10 seasons?

We will beat celtic - they are our new bitches :greengrin. Not too sure about the other/harder games.

Possibly 3 points :greengrin

Actually, sillyness aside, we're probably looking at 9 or 10 points if we apply ourselves and allowing for our usual start of season slippery ups.

Realistically we should be looking at 12 with anything against Celtic being a bonus.

We're up against 4 teams almost guaranteed to be bottom 6 this season, if not relegation candidates, and these are the games we've got to start winning consistently.

I would kill to win the first two, just to give us a chance of being level or even ahead of Celtic going into game three.

100% start, new manager's first test against the Old Firm, Mowbray's return, live on TV..... would be a fantastic atmosphere. And if we beat them....

No time for draws at home to St Mirren or away to Hamilton. Need to win these games!!
Anything below 10 certainly would be a poor start in my book

We absolutely must win at home against all the non-OF teams and I think we also have to win at places like Falkirk and Hamilton if we have any aspirations for getting into Europe.

So in saying all that, I think we should be aiming for 12 points, maybe 13 if we can get a draw against Celtic as well.

St Mirren-WIN
Falkirk-WIN
Celtic-DRAW
Hamilton-WIN
St Johnstone-WIN

Unfortunately it very rarely works out like that for us and we'll probably end those five games with 6 points or something like that. :boo hoo:

I think we might be caught cold or not be ready yet in the 1st 2 games, Hughes said he was worried about fitness levels for Saturday and Falkirk will be out to make sure they give us a torrid time..

By the time Smeltic come we'll be ready and then that'll be the result to get our season underway

Based on our pre season I shall say 4 points.

Really?

We took 10 points (W3 D1 L1) from our first 5 league games last season following a shocking pre-season/Intertoto campaign during which we went without a single win and only scored 2 goals.

During this pre-season we have fared considerably better, particularly given that we've lost both Jones and Fletcher.

9 or 10 points should be the minimum we should be aiming for IMO. Any less I think could be considered a disappointment.

St Mirren ...Win ... Nothing to be scared of

Falkirk ... Draw ... They have something to prove

Sellik ...Draw .... We are at home after all

Hamilton ...Win .... Lost too many good players and we have a good record there.

St Johnstone ... Win ... Think they might be decent, but once again we are at home and they are a promoted club.

11 Points

But this is Hibs we are talking about so who knows ?

To answer the second part of my question, London Hearts in another thread posted the following information that shows our last home first-day win was the 2-1 game against Celtic - the season we got relegated:brickwall. What's over confident about saying that Hibs should rightly be beating St Mirren and St Johnstone at home and Hamilton and Falkirk away?

These are teams that regulalry flit between the fist division and the SPL and we have a wage budget way in excess of any of them.

We certainly should be beating them.

Nonsense. Any away game is tough in the SPL. This is by no means your first season as a Hibby so where that attitude comes from is beyond me.

We have dropped 4 points from what would have been a perfect start. We will just have to make sure we, "win more than we lose" against the Dons, Well, Utd and Yams.

I agree with Andy. We should be beating Hamilton home and away, as well as Falkirk. Regardless of the past, at this current time, we have a superior squad than these teams and should be beating them, or at least making them work hard for a point or win.

We didn't make Hamilton work at all for their win. It was too easy and this shouldn't be the case for us.

Games against teams with a similar squad quality to us are a different matter (Dons, Utd, Hearts :tee hee: poss Well) and we should be looking to win our home games and again make them work hard for any points they take off us away.

Hibs always throw away points in games we should be winning and win in games we are underdogs... but regardless of this being the case for as long as we all remember, it's not correct.
