Indeed. Should make life a bit easier for Button as well. I wonder if he and Ross are still mates?

Heard the news on the way to the East Fife game.

I'm absolutely delighted with this. It'll be brilliant to see Schumi back racing again. Can't wait now:thumbsup:

When he retired, I'm sure many folk were of the opinion that it would not be the last we'd see of him in a Ferrari. He's been something of a mentor for Massa as well, so I can't think of anyone better to step in in his absence.

Hopefully he'll get the victory in Valencia. A true sporting legend :agree:

The media coverage is going to be massive.

This is fantastic news, especially has i have hardly wayched the sport since he retired. I hope he wins a few races and can show glimpses of his greatness as imo noone in the current field can even lace Shumi's boots

Very exciting. However I think its very disappointing that Michael has been chosen ahead of some budding youngster who is a name for the future.

Ooops I forgot Ferrari don’t do long term planning! :duck:

Tossing in a youngster, mid season with no testing wouldn't be smart. Secondly Ferrari were keen to avoid being seen to replace Massa and thirdly, Schumacher is still hugely respected for his car development skills, which will be invaluable in returning Ferrari to the front.

And really, only Red Bull are particularly active in driver development. The other teams might take an interest in a driver once they've reached GP2 etc. but I can only think of Red Bull actively guiding drivers throughout, save the very occasional Lewis Hamilton type.

as far as i know mclaren also have a driver development programme.

you're right about schumacher imo, the only reason he wasn't going to take the drive was his bike injury and/or the threat of a rolling-pin injury from the missus.

great news for F1, he will show the younger generation how it's done, excluding Alonso who beat him fair and square for his 2 championships and also kimi who was as fast in his mclaren without winning the championship, hamilton, vettell & co better get used to a red car ahead of them in the not too distant future

I think he is going to rock up and absolutely destroy most of the field. I'll confidently predict he will win 2 or more of the 7 (?) remaining Grand Prix's.

The single greatest driver ever, especially if the wet conditions of this "BBQ Summer" are replicated across F1 Grand Prix tracks!!!

Indiscretion

Maranello, 4th August 2009 - Guess who opposed the test with the F60? A team that hasn't won anything for years and yet didn't pass over the opportunity to demonstrate once more a lack of spirit of fair play.
Just for the record, the Scuderia Ferrari had given its approval to let Alguersuari test, but it seems even in this instance someone decided to stick to the precise wording of the regulations.

I’m surprised that it was his brass neck that was the problem :greengrin

Nice interview (http://www.ferrari.com/English/Ferrari_TV/Pages/FerrariTVPlayer.aspx?serverId=9124&c=Video) with Massa linked on that page as well.

Great to see him looking so well and upbeat given all he's been through

All the best for your recovery Felipe.

As for Schumi ...:boo hoo:
