The recession.
More people in debt = more crime = more drugs = more poverty etc etc
Also, people with lots of dough will capitalise on the recession and become even richer whilst the gap between rich and poor will grow even further.
There will probably be negative effects lasting a long time after the economy has recovered.
That's just an opinion and not based on any stats etc.
Global warming
Arms race
Those would probably follow,

Out of interest, when did global warming suddenly become climate change? Anyone notice how slyly the governments of the world did that one?
Religious and political causes.
Quite possibly, though that's become slightly less likely without Dubya in the white house thankfully.

Personally, I don't think their is anything that possesses a threat to the whole of humanity/ a sizeable portion of it.
Unless the universe stops expanding and recedes at a massive pace killing us all:rolleyes:

And add to that people wearing ignorance as a badge of pride, pseudoscience :grr:, the lack of critical/skeptical thought and an imbalance of tolerance.

I guess it depends on your viewpoint. Do you mean "world" as in just the planet or humans or all life, etc.? The earth always seems to recover no matter what's thrown at it. I think the biggest threat to the world is a collision with another body but if that doesn't happen then things are gonna get pretty messy when our Sun supernovas. That's it really. :)

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the man is a zealot who also happens to have the backing of the russians through their mutual arms arrangement. Iran has a strong infrastructure and well trained and equipped forces. If thats not enough you also have Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who selects the supreme clerics who create the bullets for Ahmadinejad to fire on the world stage. Overall a very dangerous combination.

climate change, without a shadow of a doubt.
we're all standing around with our heids up our erchies worrying about islamist fundamentalists, north korean commies and iranian hardliners. all the while, flood levels are rising, the tundra is defrosting and the arctic and antarctic are melting at a faster pace than at any time in the last 100,000 years.
there isn't much we can do about it, though we can still slow its progress to buy human civilization time to minimise the impact.
last year, saw the first climate migrants leaving their pacific island to live in new zealand. their island is now half a metre underwater. just wait till vast tracts of the subcontinent and europe are underwater and we'll realise that it really has gone pete tong and all this fannying about worrying about bearded fanatics was like farting in the breeze.

Although the two things (extremism and climate change) are linked. If your prediction comes true, then global resources diminish, the demand for food, water and space to live becomes greater and more concentrated. Desparate people will always turn to more extreme solutions: Enter fundamentalists of every political and religious flavour. Scary.

If climate armageddon comes, then yes, I would agree. We will be fighting over water resources and food.
It will be every man for themselves.

I'd say quite a few things but number one without a shadow of a doubt is the fact that, as a species, the human population is in overshoot. We are over the sustainable level of human beings that the earth can support and feed at the moment so the thought of 9 billion people by 2050 horrifies me. We are also systematically destroying nature even though we depend on nature and are a part of it. Human population increases will accelerate this destruction. Something really needs to be done and soon.
Here's a link to a pretty scary and relevant story.

Almost every problem in the world boils down to, when you really think about it, too many ****ing people in the world.

I've always suspected that this is the main reason for the world not helping Africa more.
