Does anyone know where to get any information on what would happen to Tenerife if Teide erupts?

I've always wondered if it would reach the tourist places etc, what would happen to residents, the economy, the evacuation of the island etc.

I'd imagine someone must have studied the impact but can't find anything. Ironically when searching I get loads of toursty information.

I have a vague recollection of a documentary 3-4 years ago, which had the theory that if Teide were to have a major eruption it could result in part of the mountain shearing off and sliding into the sea, which could trigger a tsuanmi that would reach the south coast of Britain and the east coast of the US.

The attached link alludes to it, and also suggests that there are no evacuation plans for the island itself.

Was in Lanzarote last year and the guide that took us round the island told us Tenerife would probably be the next island to erupt, unknown date as yet but showed us on a computer the different islands and their stability at that time. All the Canaries are still active and can go at any time.

That was the island of La Palma, not Teide.

It harbours a similar landscape with a very active volcano, but it's not eruption which poses the threat. The volcano has, over the years, gradually collected water, which is heat by the thermal vents in the structure - thus, the water pressure continues to grow, and if it reaches a critical point, the western face would splinter into the Ocean, thus triggering a tsunami which would wipe out the Eastern seaboard.

I'd imagine any volcanic eruption of Teide would have similar consequences right enough, minus the tsunami threat, as the main exit vent is more inland.

I always thought Teide was a dormant volcano and the chances of it erupting were very slim (at least thats what we were told when we visited the national park years ago)?
