I'm 23 so i've got the new version driving license so i can't drive a 7.5 tonne lorry, so my question is how do i get the bit added to my license so i can drive one? How many lessons do i have to take? I assume there's then a test?

Cheers for the help

Google it....

I think the test is quite expensive and it'll probably be the same as a car test. i.e until you can show the skill and ability to drive one. I assume you are correct about a test.

The DVLA website will tell you no doubt.

From DVLA:
---
If the vehicle has a maximum authorised mass, which exceeds 3.5 tonnes, but not 7.5 tonnes then a category C1 licence is needed. If the maximum authorised mass exceeds 7.5 tonnes then a category C licence is needed.
---

Looks like you need a C1 license up to 7.5 and then a C after that.

I think this page has more info but I'm leaving work so will have a closer look when I get home:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations/DG_4022548

From a quick read (very quick) I think it says that you need to obtain C1 before moving onto > 7.5tonnes (C).

Cheers

You need to obtain a provisional license first Stu including a medical then sit a two part theory test (multiple choice and hazard perception) then do a practical test. These guys can keep you right and come highly recommended http://www.cttstraining.co.uk/courses_catc.php ask for Jim
