Has anybody stopped smoking or have felt moved to do so as a direct result of the grisly pictures adorning nicotene products?
I have a habit (yes, I am the anti-christ) but these pics have not made an iota of difference to my indulgence and I wondered if the desired effect has been absorbed by any one. I can see them impacting on part-time smokers or those who have flirted with ciggies but for the more enthusiastic users of these drugs I cant honestly see the point.
Oh, and to even up all the times a drinker has had a hypocritical pop at me and my ilk, any chance of a few images of a withered liver or a battered wife on a beer can or vodka bottle label? And would that make any difference too?

I think if you are coming round to the idea of stopping then the photo's will be another reason to do so.
I stopped 3 months ago, and while the photo's were not the only reason I stopped they definitely did contribute. I was smoking 20 a day and every time I bought a pack I tried to ignore the photo's but I knew they were there and it wasn't nice. I think the adverts on tv and in the newspapers are quite effective as well, they certainly made me feel more guilty about smoking therefore more like stopping.
I went to the smoking cessation classes, and judging by the number of people that were attending the various meetings I think there are a lot of people stopping now or that at least want to stop, don't know how many are directly influenced by the photo's though.

i dont personally smoke but my friends act like they are panini stickers
they say things like "oh look, iv got the bad teeth one"
they say they have doublers if more than one person has the same picture
i think its quite funny while i do see the point in them :agree:

Thats exactly what me and my pal do. Both of us collected the full set in a matter of weeks. The limp ciggy alluding to impotence is the most difficult one to get!
One should be glib but sometimes its needed.

I no longer smoke but the pictures and health warnings made absolutely no difference to me and had no bearing on why I stopped. I think after you've seen them a few times you actually become immune to them. You won't stop unless you really want to and no amount of gory pictures and/or stories are going to do that.
I remember a long time ago a couple of friends from school went up to see one of their Uncle's who was dying from lung cancer. They came back with comments of 'oh my god, he looked terrible, I'm never smoking again'.
Did it stop them - did it hell.

The thought of it is probably funnier to be honest, but here you go:

It's pretty naive to think that these pics are designed to make people stop. I think that they're there to stop people starting in the first place.
They're clearly there to help prevent kids starting smoking in the first place when they are 13/14 years old so in years to come there will be much less people out there breathing their **** all over me.

I smoked for nearly 20 years when it was just the warnings on the packets and to be fair I ignored them. I'd imagine it's much the same now with the pictures on the packets.
And just in case anyone's interested I stopped after reading Alan Carr's easyway to stop smoking - I've not so much as looked at a cigarette since and I used to smoke 30 a day - 60 or 80 a day at the weekend.
Cost £8 saved thousands :greengrin

I sometimes work behind the cigarette Kiosk at my work, its amazing how many people will ask you for another box without "one of those pictures" on it
