Latest news is that the girl has checked into a psychiatric facility. Who feels the producers could have done more to help this vulnerable lady.
I thought it was awful pat, how the story about her tantrums surfaced on the week of the final, and how "someone" (definitely not Max Clifford, let the story out about Lily Alan slagging SB off.
Max Clifford is closely linked to Simon Cowell, and as such he would never dream of leaking such a story, even one which would increase interest in his client's show. I think it's important that we establish that.
I've said before that BGT is the 21st Century equivalent of paying to get into an asylum so you can bait the inmates. Is this breakdown of Susan's anything other than surprising?
And now, the press, who have been running all sorts of insensitive stories, and the people who have read and enjoyed these stories, hold up their hands, and say "oh it's terrible, it's a shame" etc etc.
Pass the sick bowl please.

He says whilst using a tasteless title. Seems like you've been taken hook, line and sinker since you know an awful lot about the stories that have come out.
FWIW I thought she looked sedated on the show on saturday, certainly very flat (not in the singing way :cool2:)
She's not coping and thankfully they are getting her the help she needs. The media are doing what they always do - anything for a 'big' story regardless of peoples feelings.

Sorry for the title, I sincerely apologise if it caused anyone any hurt. Mental health nurses can become desensitised to mental illness, and sometimes not think things through.
I obviously have been taken in, if this is all part of the story they are creating round her. I have been worried about how BGT was developing, it became such a freak show, I was beginning to think it was a response to Peter Kay's parody of Cowell's shows.
You are right, I only know what I have been told. I do have genuine concerns about the ability of someone who has had a seemingly insular life up till this point, to cope with the loss of privacy that this whole thing has brought about.
I just feel, that the way these things go she will always be seen as the publics pet special needs person. She'll be prodded and poked, like the inmates of Bedlam in the 18th century, and then they'll hold their hands up in horror when she reacts.

I actually thought she was genuinely relieved that she didn't win - and when I saw how she seemed to be feeling, I was glad for her. She made a big point about judging people on appearance, although I feel that not everyone got the fact that it was their ignorance and prejudices that are absurd, and showed little feeling for what was going on for her.
Of course, I could have it wrong, but going by body language and her reported behaviour, I think she was under severe pressure, and seemed to be unable to deal with it.

The press bigged her up....now it's enjoying the decimation of SuBo...
Her last two performances were average at best....everybody jumped on the bandwagon...declared her a winner 7 weeks ago...made her think she need only turn up...
As for Lily Allen...she never slagged her off....she said SuBo was over-rated and i entirely agree with Ms Allen :agree:
The next wacky, eccentric Scot will no doubt be on the guff Big Brother

Im sticking up for Susan:greengrin
Ms Allen as you call her has a cheek to slag off Susan Boyle imo. Whether or not Susan Boyle's live performances were average or whatever (never saw them, just clips) she is still a far better "singer" than Lily Allen. All her songs basically sound the same and her range of voice is comparable with that of a screeching cat.
If someone like Annie Lennox or someone with standing in womens singing slagged her off then fair enough not some wee neddette Lily "Im only well known because of dad" Allen.
FWIW i think the whole show needs to be looked at. Letting wee lassies through becasue they cry etc is just stupid imo. The pressure the kids are put under is just too much and could have a major negaitve impact on them, just like Susan Boyle

These things are no better than freak shows.
They should carry a mental health warning for both participants and audience.

Although I agree there is a little bit of the pot calling the kettle black in that statement from Lily Allen.

I've felt sorry for Susan Boyle throught all this, particularly the last week when people turned on her
Did she go on the show to attract mass media attention?
Did she go on the show to become a world wide phenomenon?
No she didnt. She went on the show to see if the one talent she had could get her somewhere in life .i.e. performing in front of the queen or such like.
I think ITV should definetly have stepped in when it was becomming clear that the attention was spiralling out of control. Front page headlines everyday for weeks on end cannot be good for anyone, positive or negative. The womans had camps of worldwide media placed on her doorstep, constant pressure for interviews , hounded by the public either taking the pi$$ or just (annoyingly) showing her support. Don't forget up to 7 weeks ago she'd lived her own quiet life with little/no attention and has not had the chance to go back to that.
I'd almost go as far to say Susan Boyle was exploited by ITV by their unwillingness to help her and care for her mental state, just so their own ratings could get boosted. Sickening

A bit harsh i think. ITV have a host of psychologists and counselors available to people to help them through. Susan Boyle was adamant throughout that she wanted to carry on and perform.
She did, and now she needs to take a break, chiill out and see what happens from here.
I'm not buying that she was exploited, she entered the show and she agreed to the US appearances and the like.
I think ITV have done what they can, not easy because she clearly has some psycological difficulties. I think it will be very, very difficult with whoever goes on to work with her in future. She looks as though she would be very tricky and volatile to deal with, particularly in stressful situations.
She could always say that's it and go back to her life, albeit having to cope with being known, but I think she will want to pursue a career.
