Considering the dreadful job they've done they deserve to lose their jobs. However it'll be staff in other areas of the new bank who'll pay the price I'm afraid. For example staff in the branch network who have no responsibility for the terrible losses and poor decision making will go as branches are closed.

To say that everyone in Corporate deserves to lose their jobs is very harsh. Like every other area, Corporate has hundreds of staff that have had nothing to do with what has happened and are merely doing their job.
It's the guys at the very top end that deserve to lose their jobs and most likely will.

Correct. And only a narrow-minded individual with breath-taking ignorance would fail to see that the loss of large numbers of jobs (in any sector) is not in fact a good news story for Edinburgh.

Can't see the losses will be any great shock to the staff, a friend's son works in Corporate and the air of expectancy has been lingering for I'd say at least 6 months or more.
Sad for individuals of course, but business is tough in such times.

It's not all gloom and doom though; at least Sir Fred's pension is safe.

If you are prepared to take bonuses for profits(real or imagined)you must be prepared to accept the downside which is often the sack.HBOS Corporate is described as running the worst corporate loan book in banking history and the careless attitude to lending ran through the whole area not just at the top.If anyone has to suffer it is them who put the bank at risk but it will be those in branches or in duplicating Head Office areas who will bear the brunt of the redundancies without having been to blame or so well rewarded.
Incidentally I am neither narrow minded and certainly not breath takingly ignorant-I leave that to the real experts.
got a couple of friends who work for B.O.S. and they say the mood is really bad and some workers are just going through the motions. I would think a lot of jobs will go. But at some point finance and other industries will pick up. Money talks and people with the necessary skills will always be required. Its not quite like the miners who couldnt easily adapt to new industries
ps One scottish bank doing fine is Airdrie savings bank who didnt offer stpid mortgages but stuck to the philosophy of prudent saving
