Yet another of life's failures, retires on more money than he can possibly need. Look at his bloated face, how does he sleep at night?

Probably sleeps better than you. The guy is a good guy and I doubt he'd be quite so quick to judge someone on their occupation and appearance.

His part of the RBS business has been exceptionally profitable for all the time has been involved in it and he has had an excellent and long career in banking for various organisations. A good guy and excellent with his staff.

His pension is his pension, built up over his lifetime. He has been at the top of his career for about 30 years.

You should write for The Sun.

Are you saying he isn't bloated?

Bad photo! Well, maybe he is slightly, but he is almost 60! He's also well over 6ft so carries it okay!

gordon pell is not one of the guys that should be lumped together with the others who have taken the banks down. his business is in excellent shape althpugh of course he was one of 18 board members so carries a certain amount of responsibility. He had no real time for investment bankers though coming from the old school of proper retail banking.

The personal abuse was for effect, and it was very Sun like. That said, I fail to see how his contribution to society has been such that he trousers £500k a year for the rest of his life.

Some people rob you with a six gun and some with a fountain pen. Meaning, just because he made the bank a lot of money, it doesn't follow that it was done honestly, or morally.

He is a failure, he was part of the RBS board, and as such has to carry the can (or not as the case me be) with the rest of them.

Do you honestly believe that someone can be a nice guy, and rise to the position he did by the way. You people in the banks are going to have to accept that people don't like you just now, and while I admire your loyalty and decency in speaking up for the guy, I think it is misguided.

The guy and Fred are legends.

RBS hit 54p yesterday.

P.S the first sentence was tounge in cheek. However, the markets have pretty much hit rock bottom. If you've got some savvy get involved and take advantage of a bad situation. Also, help yourself out in a year or two when the SP goes up further.

I think they are legends, but not in the way they had hoped.

Woody, where did you get the 54p from? UK markets were closed yesterday and RBS opened well under 54p from what I saw today and actually closed down.

As for the OP....you seem determined to make a story where there is none because you happen not to like bankers at this moment in time. I'm more with Andy on this, seems like the guy has had a succesful career at the top and is reaping the benefits of doing so.

They hit 54p or just under about 10 minutes after open yesterday.

Edit; they were closed on Monday.

A well argued point, and I am not trying to say that my opinions are impartial.

I do feel that £500k a year pension, when the likes of a surgeon gets a lot less, flags up something not being right though.

Piss poor though when you compare it to Joey Bartons £3M a year for doing what?

Wish him all the best for his retirement and if he needs any advice on sleep or dealing with the guilt of having £500k a year to get rid of, please let me know. :greengrin
