Can somebody help me out here? It seems that the community run Leith Festival has been taken over by Edinburgh Sh*tty Council, who I guess are about to ruin it, in the same way that the Mela, and Beltane celebrations were ruined once they got their paws on them.

One thing that sticks in my craw, is that the posters put up by the council actually start outside the Playhouse, and repeat all down the series of streets known as Leith Walk. When, as any fule kno, Leith Walk and Leith don't start till you're past Pilrig Street.

Apart from anything else, given the rivalry between the two towns, is this not a case of Edinburgh removing Leith's independence once again? Are they not treating the Port as nothing more than a suburb of Edinburgh?

To the barricades.

I didn't realise the council had taken over-that'll be why I've never had my promised email giving the main programme.

I don;t know that they have, TBH. I do know that the main sponsor (Forth Ports, who also sponsor the Mela) have pulled out, so CEC may have given them some cash.

BTW, the programme is on line.

If you look at the banners going down the walk, you'd get the impression that the council were running the show. Or have the just agreed to sponsor the banners?

Dunno, FR... haven't seen the posters.

I have, however, seen the posters celebrating various Leith worthies. The one of the Famous Five has them with Messrs. Duff and Gray ffs!

The whole thing smacks of being planned by people who know sod all about Leith.
