Being disqualified from the Australian GP was bad enough, but this story just makes him look like a blatant cheat. Idiot.

I think in some ways McLaren are like Hahahearts.

Everybody seems to be against them and they seemed to be at the end of some poor decisions. However are they both coming across as cheats. The worst type of sportsmen.

I had every sympathy for McLaren when they were involved in the spy scandal with Ferrari thinking it was more likely to be a two way thing and Alonso didn’t seem to be that white either. However this latest episode seems to indicate win at all costs and screw the rules mentality. “Away and do whatever it takes and if your found out we’ll sack you :wink:.” Sort of thing.

Hamilton knew he was lying tothe stewards yet comes out and says "I'm not a liar" :rolleyes: basically blaming Dave Ryan instead. Very sad. Lost a lot of respect for the guy.

he was doing what ryan told him to do, whitmarsh said the exact same thing, hamilton was following team instructions, im not going to excuse hamiltons or mclarens actions as i said on another thread but the is more to it than just hamilton is a liar.

if ryan had told hamilton to jump in the canal would he have done it? no. hamilton lied because he thought he could gain one (measly) point as a result. he said himself that when he spoke to the stewards he felt uncomfortable. why? because he was lying ("failing to give a full and frank account" in mclaren-speak). what's worse is that his so-called confession to the press was just an exercise in self-preservation and passing the buck. disgusting. i used to be a big admirer of his, not now.

like i said im not defending hamiltons actions at all, im just saying ryan is not an innocent by-stander in all this, yeah hamiltons lied, he apologised and i personally hope mclaren and hamilton have learned a lot from this and wont try anything so stupid again.

ryan definitely wasn't innocent either, it sounds as if he instigated it, however hamilton was not duty bound to become an accomplice in ryan's plan. whitmarsh was asked why ryan was suspended but hamilton was not and his answer was very wishy washy indeed, i.e., there there doesn't seem to be any good reason.

when trulli came 3rd, hamilton appealed against it because it was hamilton who should have came 3rd because trulli made a mistake and went off the track under a safety car and hamilton overtaken him.

the lie came when hamilton and ryan were interviewed by race stewards, and hamilton and ryan witheld the information that ryan told hamilton to let trulli passed as hamilton took trullis place under a safety car.

i disagree, it was early this morning it was on but i remember whitmatsh clearly saying it was ryan who told hamilton to withold the information to the race stewards. thats IIRC :greengrin

they chose not to tell the race stewards about the radio converstion between hamilton and his team thinking it would have cost them 3rd place.

FWIW I think that there is some kind of discrimination against Hamilton in F1.

I was laughing when I heard about the points being removed because I remember a commentator / news reporter saying that Hamilton had benefitted from Trulli's penalty and been moved to 3rd place. I was thinking :wtf: Hamilton actually got a decision his way and then it was taken away from him.

Very possibly, but the fact remains that Hamilton is a liar (notwithstanding his "I'm not a liar" plea in the BBC story, link in the opening post). The fact also remains that everything Lewis says in the future is now suspect.

no one is denying that though, and thats up to lewis himself to repair his damaged reputation. i was mearly making the point that lewis was not alone in this and he was taking most of the slack (on this thread) when there is at least one other equally guilty party.

the bbc have taken it to a new level, i never used to be able to watch practices but when i was it was just a live stream with no commentry.

now i can watch them all and when i suits me as well, the presenters are quality, when i heard about coulthard i wasnt sure but it was worked out very well indeed :top marks

Todays grand prix was the first I watched live as I wasn't up early enough for the aussie GP and I have to say the uninteruppted coverage and the whole show was absolutely top notch and far superior to what ITV done last season :agree: well done BBC.

My favourite bit today was Martin Brundle on the starting grid trying to get a look at the toyota's rear diffuser and the mechanics dancing about in front of him to block the view :faf: :faf:
