On my way home form work the back of midnight on Friday night /sat morning. Some trumpet on the eastbound lane of the bypass heading west at Straiton!!!!!!! Trying to attract their attention but they seemed oblivious even to the fact that cars were swerving to avoid head on collisions. I was sure some poor bugger would be killed. Anyhoo phoned the Police and they said they were aware and there were units on the way. They asked where it was nowby this time at hillend. Got just past Dreghorn and was relieved to see two police cars straddling the road with the traffic backed up behind them crawling along towars the car.
Either foreigners, bevvied/drugs or a woman. :greengrin (maybe all three) Anyhoo thought I would share that with y'all. :dummytit:

I passed this when the policy had managed to stop him, nearly crashed as all of a sudden cars infront of me were braking hard....lucky enough for my spiderman like reflexes! From what I saw it was old man driving the car. No idea what the HELL he was doing coming down the wrong side of the bypass though:confused:

I am guessing he must have come on at Sherrifhall. It would be almost impossible anywhere else. He must have been either ****ting himself completely or totally unaware and thinking the cars in the fast lane were all lunatic overtakers. How he never even acknowledge me trying to attract his attention is anyones guess. All's well that ends well I suppose.

Not surprised to hear it was an old man. There are a lot of irresponsible people who continue to drive, despite medical warnings that they shouldn't. Unfortunately the older you are the more likely you are to have something wrong with you. I think it's time for annual medical exams for the over 70s wanting to renew their licence.

Personally I think its a disgrace that I have to pay more insurance than people like this guy. When driving my family 1.4 Vauxhall Meriva my insurance is over £30 per week due to my age and sex. And although there is a minority of idiot boy racers who make my insurance higher it really pisses me off!
Rant over!

I'd make them resit the driving test annually as soon as they reach 65.This stupid old bass should lose his licence.

I agree.

There should also be some kind of link into the health service to see if it is appropriate that people drive. A few years back an old guy had a heart attack and crashed into a bus stop at Liberton and killed someone at the stop IIRC.

It's not about age discrimination it's common sense (before someone brings it up).

On a separate note, about boy racers and speeding in general. When you see government campaigns etc to cut down on people speeding and leave an extra few mins to get where you wanna go etc etc. Do they not realise that the majority of people don't speed because they're in a hurry and that people enjoy going fast?

This reminds me of something that happened last year, an old guy pulled up to a bus stop on a duel carriageway i was at and asked for directions to somewhere. I pointed out that he had came the wrong way and it was back up the road so he started doing a 3 point turn in the middle of the dual carriageway.

Taxi drivers, and I guess HGV drivers have annual medicals once they reach a certain age.
