Human being has affair, shock horror probe.
Human being has a **** in his office, shock horror probe.
Reactionary newspapers tell us it's a story of moral outrage, shock horror probe.
News of the World rightly slates Russel Brand for publicly humiliating Andrew Sach's granddaughter but happily and hypocritically does the same to another public figure, shock horror probe.
Gullible individuals and those with political agendas seize on said story, shock horror probe.
Nigel Griffiths has a girlfriend. Big flippin deal. :bitchy:
At least he did it in the office. It's a damned sight less civilised in the bog at the Footlights Bar and Grill.

If you dont care fare enough, just pointing out the actions of an Edinburgh MP who got elected largely due to personal vote. What's democracy without accountability?
Fed up with these arrogant d!ckheads

Does he have to be accountable to us for his love life?
What has democracy got to do with that?
He should be accountable for his political actions, not his personal life.

It seems the incident occured at his place of work and he has therefore breached the code of conduct which just so happens to be the UK Houses of Parliament.
Besides, it's a funny story!! :greengrin

It seems so.
The hypocrites can fill their boots with indemnity.

As is often the case, I disagree with you.
The thought of Nigel Griffiths on the nest is frankly, horrific.

I reckon he's been set up. A classic honey trap.
Doesn't get him off the hook, though.

But sometimes the way people act are a measure of them as a person. If he can cheat on and betray his wife who he has loved and has had a personal relationship for x years how can he always be trusted to put do the right thing for the people that put him there.
I know that people can sometimes completely separate their personal and work life but with some it highlights them for what they are.

Conservative estimates are that 60 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have an extramarital affair.
I would venture a guess that those figures are much higher when it comes to politicians due to the fact that their perceived power makes them more attractive and their lifestyle which dictates they are away from home a lot of the time.
"There is no one single reason a person has an affair. There are usually many reasons, including some of the forces that pull them toward affairs and some of the forces that push them toward affairs, combined with the influence of the general factors in society that contribute to affairs." (http://www.dearpeggy.com/affairs.html)
I don't think an affair gives us any clues as to the suitability of a person to hold political power. It may give a clue about the state of their marriage, their insecurity or their ego, but that's about it for me.

How the **** is this crap newsworthy?? Right, he probably breached the House of Commons code of conduct (although I'd love to see the line that says "Thou shalt not pork yon Secretary") and he should be punished appropriately. But is a appropriate punishment to be sacked/impeached??
Does the fact the man has done what umpteen men and women before him have done render him unsuitable for office???
No
Is he likely to go around making horrendous decisions because he is getting a bit on the side??
No
The fascination in this country (and even more the USA) with politicians sex life and also the idea that how they conduct themselves "in the bedroom" is directly linked to how good they are at their job has always perplexed me. Are the "reporters" that scream "foul-play" at this kind of behaviour not getting any themselves or what??
Francois Mitterand was French President for umpteen years, and a important player on the political stage for many more. Throughout most of this it was a well-known fact in certain political and media circles that he had a mistress. There was even a pretty famous photo of his wife, mistress and "illegitimate" child at his funeral. Was it ever splashed across the tabloids in a "Man has extra-marital sex - free world in danger" style "exclusive"???
No, because the French have absolutely the right attitude to these sort of things when it comes to public figures - ergo, as long as no-one gets killed/injured, it's nobody's business.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nigel G at Uni.
Slightly oily character, IIRC - a Scottish version of Peter Hain, but without the redeeming qualities.
So I suppose, from one point of view at least, it IS quite newsworthy that he has a mistress. :cool2:
I think everyone is missing the point here.
It's the fact he fiercely denied it....until he was presented with the photographic evidence that convinces me he can't continue in his position.
How can anyone ever trust this man again after that pathetic u-turn?
He might well be a good MP for his constituents but he's been caught out big time. People will now look at the name instead of the party when they vote and he won't be selected again.
He should stand down.
