It's absolutely absurd how much "Duty" we pay on Fuel. In the United States, gas prices are roughly around the $2 per gallon (roughly £1.38 at the moment). 1 gallon = 3.78 liters, meaning in the US, it's only 67c (38p) per liter in the US, as opposed to us being almost treble that!

They've a cheek to demand road tax when they make so much bloody money from the duty paid on fuel!!!

It wouldn't suprise me if they've already invented cars that can run on water but not made it widely available as they'd lose their revenues on oil etc etc.

The water thing throws up other issues such as shortages. Imagine sothern England when they have a hosepipe ban. No driving for you sir!

Hydropolitics will generate the next wars, once oil isn't worth fighting over!

I can see the argument about fuel duty, but as an example the NHS has to be paid for somehow.

I was sitting in the dentist waiting room the other day and was reading a Metro from the previous week. There was a wee bit about a guy in America who had his life support turned off......... not because he was beyond saving, but because he had no medical insurance and no way of paying the bills.

Disgusting state of affairs. Where are the pro-lifers when stuff like that happens? Too busy protesting outside abortion clinics. Erses!

Back on topic: Soon (in the within the next decade or 2 IMO) only the very rich will be able to afford petrol. We are on the verge (if not already) of peak oil. When world demand for oil is more than than can be supplied on a daily basis things will get even worse. A lot worse.

I don't know if it's on that site but I read about the curve of the oll remaining and the demand for it as it begins to reduce and that's exactly what will happen.

IMO the world is gonna be ****ed in the next 100 years or so. China and India are expanding at a rate of god knows what with little regard to pollution etc. Their demand for goods that the west has taken advantage of for a long time can only increase as every day passes.

A viable renewable energy source will need to be found in the next 10 years or so to give it time to implement across the world which will take years in itself or there will be a hell of a lot of wars over energy.
