Hello,

I have booked up for Tenerife on 12 May for two weeks. I booked the Panorama hotel as I've been there before and it's quite nice. Got a decent deal for two people as well so was looking forward to it apart from the exchange rate. :grr:

However, I received a letter saying that the hotel will now be shut during my stay and they have moved me hotel and given me an alternative hotel (Santa Maria Aparthotel) of the same rating.

The options they have given me are:

1. Don't contact them which means I'm happy with the change.
2. Contact them and arrange a new hotel. Any increase in price would be taken on by me.
3. Cancel my holiday with full refund.

I'm quite pissed off as I booked the original hotel specifically.

What do you think I should do?
Has anyone been in this situation before?

I think I should phone them and tell them I want a new hotel with a higher star rating than the original hotel I booked for the inconvenience but suspect they will say no.

As I've booked my holiday at the perfect time (about 10-12 weeks before) I don't think I'd be able to even get another similar hotel without an increase in price if I wanted to deviate from the one they've given me.

I don't think it's worth the refund as I won't be able to get anywhere else at the same time just as cheap.

Any advice or thoughts would be great. I need to phone them tonight....

Thanks

You have to take the 3 choices mate if you check your terms and conditions you'll see they are within there rights to do so.

Push for this, I got lucky with an upgrade in Cuba a coupleo fyears back and ended up in a 5 star hotel usually treble the price of where were booked to go

I thought they would be but think it might be worth a shot at a better hotal.

If I were to take option 3 I'd get the money back but I don't think it's enough to get a similar holiday for the amount (£670 for two weeks for 2 people) on the same dates. I'm paying the full whack as I'm taking my ma so can't afford to stretch any further as I need spending money as well (here's hoping my work give a half decent bonus :faf: ).

:agree:

If you don't ask, you don't get. If you have time, have a quick shop around for late deals to see if you can get anything decent at short notice, then use this as ammunition.

I don't think an upgrade is out of the question considering the inconvenience. Threaten to take the refund, they might chuck in a few extras at least.

Thanks guys.

I think I'll give it a try asking for the upgrade. Good to see someone has had success with it in the past.

I think I should throw in some kind of sob story for the reason I booked that hotel specifically. Any suggestions?

I have been there before with the ex burd so maybe wasn't the best idea to book that hotel but it was nice at a reasonable price so thought I'd get over the emotional stress! Would have been funny if I ended up in the same room! :greengrin

There's your excuse right there.

"I booked that hotel specifically because I'd been there with my girlfriend before, it's for our xth anniversary, I'm really disappointed, blah blah blah"

You're really just bending the truth, not outright lying.....

I'm going with my mum this time.

If I said that and they looked at my booking they'd think I'm a) banging my own ma or b) some kind of sado going to the place he stayed with his (ex) GF without her. :faf:

Try www.sunshine.co.uk (http://www.sunshine.co.uk) for price comparison. I've always found them to have the best deals.

:grr:

I looked at that site and found the same flights etc with a better hotel than the one I was originally staying at for £60 less!

I might just book that and get a refund but am worried that I won't get the money back for ages. You know what these ***** are like when it comes to refunds.

I've got the e-mail address for the customer relations so I'm going to mail them tonight and try to get an improved hotel as they wouldn't do it on the phone without paying extra.

Reasons I have already to get an improved hotel are (real ones):

Immediate access to the waterfront and views from the hotel.
Immediate access to the harbour.
Situated right next to the main shopping centre in San Eugenio (sp?).
My mum isn't in the best shape so short walks preferable.

The only problem with the above is the other hotel is near the other one and offers pretty much the same. It's also on a big hill (the other was at the bottom of a big hill).

Any BS stories anyone can think of would be good!

FFs man you're from Gilmerton, it stands to reason that you're banging your ma! The giveaway was possibly your special instructions for a double room rather than a twin one...

ive worked 6 years in travel and they have given you your options. you might if you go in and look through a search for the same holiday and if you get a better hotel of the same price they should switch that over. but they WONT spend money on you especially in the climate with the ression

Do some basic research on the hotels on Trip advisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com)

That will tell you what other folk have thought of the two and you can compare. And if the replacement is of a lesser standard then complain and tell them why
