team attacked by gunmen and 5 players hit on team bus outside the ground in pakistan, no player casualties but policemen have been killed.
going to be some majpr fallout coming from this, can't see any sporting team being willing to travel there now.
(admins, apologies if this should be in the other sports forum, wasn't sure best place for it)

Maybe Rod should make sure there's plenty of security at Hamilton tomorrow?

Absolutely shocking incident that could easily have been a lot worse.
I was watching the news earlier today and the guy on there seemed to suggest that a possible motive for the attack might be that these people consider sport and Sharia Law to be incompatible, so after the attack they know that other sports teams will now refuse to travel to Pakistan in the foreseeable future.
The other possible motive may be to punish the Pakistani Government, for its pro-Western stance.
Seemingly the group responsible is linked to the terrorists who attacked Mumbai last year.
It's really awful when sportsmen and women are caught up in political and religious conflicts. Sri Lanka went there after India pulled out of a scheduled visit, following the Mumbai attacks. This is how they have been repaid.
I'm just glad that the Sri Lanka players are all OK. I think people need to give Pakistan a very wide berth for the foreseeable future as it seems to be a hotspot for terrorist activity at the moment.
It just goes to show that no-one is safe, anywhere in the world, from these people.

:agree:A dreadful incident prevented from being much worse by the courage of the team bus driver and the Pakistani police officers who lost their lives.
No doubt the appeasers and excusers will be out in force, blaming the USA, Israel, capitalism :blah::blah:
In the real world it merely illustrates that the real fight is not about Islam v Christianity/Judaism or capital v labour. It's about civilisation v barbarism and defending five hundred years of progress against those who seek to restore the Middle Ages by force of arms.
