The old cliche says that respect has to be earned. Is this true or do you think respect should be shown to all.
My personal opinion is that everyone should be shown respect, however they can lose it.

Everyone should at least have a minimum amount of respect just for being a human being, but some deserve more respect than others.

The way that I see it is that everyone is born with a certain amount of respect , but the actions that people put into place can increase or decrease that amount throughout their life.

Also, I'm a great believer in the old cliche "Treat people how you would like to be treated"

A good starting point is respecting oneself; only then can one truly extend it to others and evaluate their subsequent worthiness of it.

To earn respect, you have to give respect.
Somebody doesn't respect me, they have a slim chance of me respecting them.

What does that spell ?
How do we all expect to get restecpa, when we aint restecpaing each ova ? :greengrin
Respect starts with respecting oneself and, by example, others will respect back. I tend to not react to folk who show no respect since that would be me lowering myself to their level - if I am continually reacting, then I am never free. Courtesy and respect cost nothing and that's the way I mostly relate with others - I am human and do have occasional "slips", however, apologise afterwards.

I think respect for everyone should be the default position.
However, hearts supporters and non weegie old firm fans have to earn respect.

Courtesy and manners are the two most powerful ways we show strangers respect. No manners, no respect :agree:
