View Full Version : Nuclear Attack/War
Is this likely to happen in out lifetime?
Not something I personally want to see for obvious reasons:greengrin but after seeing in the news the other day about the UK and French nuclear submarines having a collision in the Atlantic it brings it home that they are out there and could be fired at any moment.
What are peoples thoughts on this?

Probably the biggest likelihood is that some terrorist organisation gets their hands on some and attacks someone.
In terms of countries going at it I'm not so sure. Middle East would be your most likely place I'd imagine.

Israel or Pakistan, possibly.
I don't think the risk is anything like what it was even 20 years ago. The world is different.
As for terrorists constructing an ICBM, I doubt that very much. More likely that they would plant a bomb containing radioactive substances - a so called "dirty bomb".
Besides, IMO countries don't acquire nuclear weapons for any other reason than to be taken seriously in negotiations. No-one wants a nuclear war because basically there would be a massive cost to human life and infrastructure. Nukes are bargaining chips.
If you have them, people will listen to what you have to say. (except Britain, who do what we are told and give the launch codes to the US).
