Just how bad can the weather forecasting get?
Yesterday's forecast for today was cold and clear with bright sunshine.
They cannot even forecast 12 hours in advance.

I used to work there, mate.
Sacked for excessive accuracy. :agree:

Even the Met Office just make the weather forecast up, I go on the website alot and it changes all the time.

I do not take weather forecasters seriously. They are certainly wasting their time with a five day forecast, but they even struggle with forecasts for the next again day.
Much better to wake up and stick your head out the window.

The weather forecast is a load of hocus pocus read by charlatans.I don't know why people pay it so much attention,it is no more accurate than mystic meg-no doubt someone will come on here proving me wrong!

Dunno why but the weather forecasts we get for a couple of hundred miles out to sea seem to be pretty reliable, plenty times theyve told us days in advance and been on the money give or take an hour or so, maybe its easier with no land etc around but I've thought about it often enough, the forecasts I see offshore are reliable but soon as I'm on land and listening to forecasts I become a sceptic cos they get it wrong or are that vague so much you end up with the feeling they're consulting the tea leaves or throwing the dice before making a "forecast".

It's complex mathematical models, not "hocus pocus". I don't think we'll ever really get really accurate forecasts, though.

Earlier on today apparently, a woman rang the BBC and said she had heard that there was a hurricane on the way.
Well if you are watching, don't worry there isn't.

Why say something in the first place if they dont know what its going to be in advance.

Obviously not the diddies at the Met office! They change it after we already know.
Why do people put such great store in what these guys say the weather's going to be? They're just guessing.

I wouldn't say that they are just guessing but it certainly seems that way sometimes.
Think about just how complex forecasting the weather is and how many things can suddenly affect it last minute, literally a change in current 5000 miles away can affect the UK weather....not an easy job to do but a very easy job to criticise :agree:

Weather forecasters are very fortunate people inasmuch as they make a decent living from spouting bare-faced lies. Just like lawyers and politicians!
Whoever said honesty was the best policy?

Apart from about 50% on the research that goes in Universities, the MET Office is the biggest waste of taxpayers money IMHO. They are F|CKING USELESS!!! :grr:

I have never really noticed it being so wrong like people suggest. Perhaps i just dont pay enough attention to it.
Sky News says its to be sunny tomorow, so if i get round to looking outside i'll see if it is correct or not.

My feeling too.
What gets me is that they can't even tell you what the weather is doing outside now!

It's true. On Thursday it was reported on Radio Forth that the weather was sunny. I looked out my kitchen window. It was snowing.
