May be moving to the Edinburgh area in the not too distant future:thumbsup:, have initially shortlisted 3 properties from Rightmove to view with the wife. Don't know the areas and was looking for advise and info as to what they are like, what you think of them (any good/**** pubs)! Maybe some of you .netters live there?? All comments positive or negative appreciated. The areas where these properties are SILVERKNOWES, KIRKLISTON & GOREBRIDGE. Cheers

Gorebridge is outside the city bypass by about 7 miles IIRC (12 miles to the City Centre). My burd stayed there and they're a bunch of teuchters (sorry and Hibbies from out there but that was the impression I got from the people I met!). Think the boozers are full of people who stare at you because you're not from there (like most places though).

I think Kirkliston is a bit of a mission to the centre as well (12 miles). My cousin stays there so I'll ask her what it's like in the next couple of days what it's like unless anyone has already replied.

Don't know much about Silverknowes.

I'm from Gorebridge and it's not very exciting, full of junkies and old people really. Some areas are a lot nicer than others.

I don't know much about Kirkliston but a friend stays there and he loves it, it's a bit out the way but he says it's great for the kids. I'm sure other people could give you more info.

Don't know much about Silverknowes. It's a lot more central than the other 2. It has a golf course as well

For me it would be Silverknowes based on information living close to there some 35 years ago!!!

I personally wouldn’t want to live out of town, which I class the other two as.

More buses, means most pubs in Edinburgh are accessible – sometimes its surprising how quickly you can get around town on a bus!

There's 3 pubs in Davidsons Mains, very close by, your bound to like at least one. My wife and I ended up in Ye Olde Inn on one of our random bus journeys last summer, still as nice/good as it ever was.

Local shops and supermarkets nearby.

A selection of decent walks around the place.

A, not very good admittedly although it might be better, golf course nearby.

Direct bus to Easter Road :greengrin

Not sure about the other areas but my Sister in Law stays in Kirkliston. She moved there last year and loves it. We are looking to move this year and Kirkliston is definitley on the shortlist. The area she stays at is really quiet. It has a decent pub (important selling point :greengrin), Chippy, Chinese, Co-op, etc and also South Queensferry a very short drive up the road for Tescos. Also a regular bus service right into the city centre, my brother in law reckons the bus in doesnt take too long due to the Greenways. The Primary school and Nursery are also meant to have a good name.

PS you should also try searching on the ESPC. I find that its by far the best site for properties in and around Edinburgh and very easy to use.

Both Kirkliston and Gorebridge are fair trecks out of the city. Silverknowes is a lot closer to the centre aswell as having better bus links plus possible good views over the forth.

Am no far fi Silverknowes myself - just a stone's throw - brilliant place to live and some fabulous sunsets to be seen from there. Bus service is second to none and, like other posters have mentioned, good pubs and shops nearby.

Not far fi Cramond either with its historical beauty and Silverknowes is surrounded by beautiful walkways - one being the shore - and a good community spirit down here in North Edinburgh

Kirkliston is 20mins by car and you would most likely get more for your money.

Very nice area too.

If you arent too bothered about living out of town, Livingston would be an option. You will get more for your money and it has 2 train lines to Edinburgh which take 25 to 30 mins to Waverley. Alot of the estates are child friendly and the shopping is good so the wife says :greengrin We moved out from central Edinburgh approx 5 years and have really enjoyed it and good for the kids.

If a central (to Edinburgh) location is what you're after stick with Silverknowes.

Although Edinburgh is served by an excellent bus service (anyone who's ever moved away from Edinburgh will have noticed how good LRT actually is) so most places in Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian are all easily accessible.

I think the have a good look around the ESPC http://www.espc.co.uk/ before you come up for your look around is the best idea yet.

The only good thing about livingstone are the M8 and the rail links going out of it.

Are you for real. How many people on here are you trying to upset.

Whats your game - "lets see how long it takes for them to ban me."

You seriously need to calm down buddy.

Or I will give you something to bitch about.
