RIOTING lags went on a prison rampage last night because they hadn’t been fed for TWO DAYS, sources claimed last night.

The furious cons went berserk over reports the kitchens had run out of of food — with even the jail’s vending machines sitting empty.

As many as 60 inmates smashed up TVs and phones before taking over their recreation room.

It's not as if they have the freedom to pop down to the kitchen to rustle up a quick snack. Of course, doesn't excuse the behaviour.

I'm sure there will be someone moaning about how cons should feel lucky they even get fed etc etc etc.

For one, I would not replace the phones or TV's there fault they smashed such a luxuary in a prison. Let them STARVE I say, much cheaper than feeding them!! :devil:

I don't believe a word or statistic in the rag, but certainly believe that there are cons not being fed.

Anything else, such as the numbers of LCD TVs smashed is speculation. Did this person's relative go around counting the number of TVs and keep an accurate note?

That is because this SNP administration is the criminal's friend. They have tried to make life as comfortable as possible for the criminals that have had to remain within the prison system. As for the rest of them, well they have been released back into the community to put law abiding citizens at risk.

I am certainly part of that "throw away the key" faction for multiple offenders, but then, unlike left wing politicians my concerns are for the victims as opposed to the perpetrators. It's all about principles and priorities. Macaskill is bereft of principles and we know what his priorities are.

Justice is a matter for the Scottish administration so the Tories can do whatever they like when they get in (I fully accept that) but until they form an administration in Scotland (...), their reach will be England and Wales only.

Most places you buy bulk TVs do not even sell old tube style TVs anymore, most are small LCD ones, nothing fancy about them at all.

Prison is NOT a holiday camp like some people like to believe, and not feeding prisoners for 2 full days is ridiculous, ofcourse they are going to go off on one, they are all criminals and probably in some way mentally unstable.

Its not an excuse, im just saying if you deprive people who are mentally unstable of food for 2 days of course they are going to go nuts, the people running the place should have had the foresight to keep them all in there cells during this period and it would never have happened.

My point was that I hate it when people describe criminals as being mentally unstable as some kind of reasoning.

I'm not talking about you and what you've said. Just when people in general use it as an excuse, especially for murderers etc.

Aye i wasnt using it as an excuse for them or reasoning just meant to point out that they are all mental and should have been dealt with better.

I also dislike when criminals are given some sort of excuse, the rest of us dont get that luxury when we do something wrong.

Why don't we just bring back the pillory and the stocks. I've no time for the sort of people that end up in jail (unless of course their mates post on Hibs.net, then they are automatically good blokes who have done nothing wrong, and don't deserve the clink), but people that criticise fail to understand how difficult it is to control any crowd of people who have had their freedom taken away.

I know what its like to go without food for even a few hours.It gives me a severe headache.I could imagine it would be worse locked up in that kind of atmosphere.I have every sympathy for anyone who took their anger out in that way.I bet they are being fed now.

At the end of visiting time, all you could hear was " cheerio darlin daddy loves you. "Cant wait to see you next time" etc etc.

Well if you love your kids that mutch, why the hell arn't you on the outside looking after them ya useless piece of crap !!!

I just made 144 Nigerians go without food last night as they refused to move to new, 100 times better, accommodation, and I had already instructed the caterers to close the kitchen at their old accommodation. They weren't happy, but quite remarkably didn't riot, which I had expected, but they will move today. I know it was probably not the correct thing to do however the situation demanded drastic action. I have not a clue what the problem was in the prison but maybe there were factors beyong their control???

That sentence always gets me, it makes the laggies sound like the victims. They knew the consequencies before doing the crime, hence they gave up their right to freedom.

Maybe??? But I still can't think of any reason why men behind bars should be deprived of food. Surely they could have rustled up some bread and water on the quick?

As a lot of people have said people ar ein jail for all sorts of reasons, and if they did the crime they should serve the time.

I think if you are found guilty of a crime and are in jail, you are there to be PUNISHED.

If somone is in jail, i feel,they should be given some human rights,such as a shower, water, food and use of a loo and thats about it,no playstations or huge tv's

as you say yourself, the response was to be expected so they should have had plans in place to prevent it.
