You could get $1.417 in the travel agents at SavaCentre today. That's the highest it's been for some time.

Is it likely to go much higher? I thought interest rates were one of the main drivers here and they aint going up in a hurry!

We're going to the US in the summer and I'll buy some dollars now if the current rate is about as good as it's going to get.

Any currency experts out there?? :greengrin

I'm just back from a fortnight out there and I'm dreading next months credit card bill.

It's very expensive just now :paranoid:

Get an account with Nationwide. use their debit card to withdraw cash when you're abroad. You get the business rate, not the crap tourist rate. :agree:

Definitely worth doing. I was getting a very good rate when I done that this summer. The only risk would be that you are offered a better rate now than when you go but that could go both ways.

As I understand it you can't open an account with Nationwide as a second account ie you need to transfer your salary etc to their one - or am I missing something?

It's my second account. I opened it after having a child's account though, not sure if that would make any difference

I certainly moved my salary etc.

It's definitely worth it.

Thier credit card is great abroad too.

Edit: It looks like you don't have to use it as your main account.

Shocking rate.

I've been lucky as my three trips to the US have been all at £1:$2 :greengrin

It will rise IMHO .. I expect Euro at 1.30 and Dollar 1.60 by end of June

Hope so.

I got some advice from a gal who knows and she recommended buying soon as the rate was higher due to a correction. I got some yesterday and sure enough it's down a bit today.

Could do with it being a bit higher in the summer though!

It was around $1.75 when I started watching the rate but I didn't have the money then!!

Of the major currencies the pound is the one with a large 'SELL' sign over it. An American forecaster has predicted parity between Stg/$ later this year!!
